Fox News rewards Greg Gutfeld’s bigotry, lies, and sycophancy with another weekday show

Fox News will replace anchor Shannon Bream’s Fox News @ Night at 11 p.m. ET with “an ‘irreverent’ late-night show” starring Greg Gutfeld, as Fox continues to “expand opinion programming on [its] schedule.” Bream’s “straight news” show will instead air beginning at midnight.

Gutfeld is a former magazine editor turned right-wing pundit, best known for his presence as a contrarian co-host on The Five and his penchant for lying about former President Donald Trump’s praise for neo-Nazis.

To help media observers better understand Gutfeld’s continued rise to prominence at Fox, Media Matters has compiled some of his worst contributions to public discourse:

Gutfeld dismissed Trump’s attempt to change Georgia election results as “the latest media hoax.” [Fox News, The Five, 1/4/21]

As the country faced the out-of-control COVID-19 pandemic and hundreds of thousands dead, Gutfeld declared, “We're not in a crisis moment. We have to pat ourselves on the back for what America did.” [Fox News, The Five, 11/16/20]

Gutfeld mocked concern about a Biden campaign bus being threatened by a pro-Trump convoy in Texas. [Fox News, The Five, 11/1/20]

Gutfeld argued that if Joe Biden won the 2020 election, “impeachment proceedings start the day after inauguration.” [Fox News, The Five, 10/22/20]

During the Senate confirmation hearing for Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Gutfeld referred to Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and then-Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as “petty” and “jealous” “mean girls.” [Fox News, The Five, 10/14/20]

Gutfeld declared that supporters of Black Lives Matter “have lost the right to complain” about right-wing plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. [Fox News, The Five, 10/9/20]

Gutfeld on Kamala Harris: “When we dearly needed law and order, she chose thugs.” [Fox News, The Five, 10/7/20]

Gutfeld: Trump “took the risk, he got the virus," because “he was doing it for us.” [Fox News, The Five, 10/2/20]

Gutfeld defended Trump's refusal to denounce white supremacy and right-wing extremist group the Proud Boys. [Fox News, The Five, 9/30/20]

Gutfeld mocked a co-host for noting white supremacists have been arrested for plotting violence at protests. [Fox News, The Five, 6/12/20]

As co-host Juan Williams tried to describe institutional racism, Gutfeld shouted him down. [Fox News, The Five, 6/1/20]

Gutfeld blamed “the unbending mind” for the police killing of George Floyd and questioned what happened before the video started. [Fox News, The Five, 5/27/20]

Gutfeld compared disgraced former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn to the Central Park Five. [Fox News, The Five, 5/8/20]

Gutfeld claimed it was better to reopen the country “too early” and argued that opening too late would “create permanent damage” to the economy. [Fox News, The Five, 5/6/20]

Gutfeld warned the media to now “be super, super careful” about criticizing people who violate stay-at-home orders because “staying home doesn’t help anymore after we flattened this curve.” [Fox News, The Five, 5/6/20]

Gutfeld claimed the only problem with Trump's “offhand comment” about injecting disinfectants to treat COVID-19 is how it was covered, saying, “This is hilarious.” [Fox News, The Five, 4/24/20]

Gutfeld attacked Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for criticizing swastikas displayed at a social distancing protest, and he claimed they were being used ironically. [Fox News, The Five, 4/17/20]
