Laura Ingraham's show has often flown under the radar. But she has been central to Fox News’ controversies.

Fox News is moving The Ingraham Angle from 10 p.m. to 7 p.m; viewers, advertisers, and others may be taken aback by the show's extremist content

In October 2017, Fox News launched The Ingraham Angle, promoting Laura Ingraham from contributor to host and consequently elevating a conspiracy theory-mongering, climate change-denying, transphobic, xenophobic, anti-choice white supremacist to a coveted prime-time slot. Now, after years of spreading dangerous misinformation and lies at 10 p.m., Ingraham has been pushed up to the 7 p.m. timeslot.

On Fox, Ingraham has played a pivotal role in pushing the conservative agenda and is known especially for her deadly COVID-19 misinformation and vile anti-immigrant sentiment that often includes white supremacist talking points such as the “great replacement” conspiracy theory. During Trump’s presidency, Ingraham even enjoyed undue influence over White House policy, advising the former president either through her show or in face-to-face meetings with Trump himself.

Ingraham’s allegiance to conservatism and her contempt for the truth were made clear when she knowingly pushed false conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and Capitol insurrection, as seen in personal texts revealed in the Dominion lawsuit filings and House January 6 investigation, respectively. Ingraham is undeniably aware of her influence and the consequences of her lies, yet she continues to use her platform to push right-wing propaganda.

Here is a list of Ingraham’s most dangerous lies and conservative talking points:

  • Anti-abortion smears

  • Ingraham is one of the network’s fiercest supporters of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Touting her Catholic faith, Ingraham often invokes religious authority to attack abortion providers, praise crisis pregnancy centers, and dismiss the deleterious consequences of restricted reproductive rights for women.

  • Climate denial

  • Besides platforming misinformation to undermine climate science, Ingraham’s rhetoric often follows a pattern of tying any climate action to culture wars to create a false dichotomy between personal freedom and a thriving planet. Ingraham also frequently engaged with environmental conspiracy theories, such as the Great Reset theory, climate lockdowns, and fearmongering about 15-minute cities.

    • Ingraham dismissed climate change: Receding glaciers are “why we have the Rocky Mountains.” [Fox News, The Ingraham Angle, 1/10/20]

  • COVID-19 and anti-vaccine misinformation

  • Throughout the pandemic, Laura Ingraham cemented herself as one of Fox News’ leading voices in spreading misinformation about coronavirus. Ingraham has dismissed masks, pushed herd immunity and unproven treatments for COVID-19, attacked health officials and the efficacy of vaccines, and assembled her own medicine cabinet of discredited doctors to validate her COVID-19 misinformation. Even now, despite reports that the vaccine has saved millions of lives, Ingraham continues to claim that it is dangerous rather than lifesaving.

On top of her influence among Fox viewers, Ingraham also helped craft Trump’s early pandemic response. Not only did Trump live-tweet Ingraham as she pushed unproven cures, he even invited her to the White House on multiple occasions, where she advised him against contact tracing and on using hydroxychloroquine as a cure for COVID-19. The consequences arising from Ingraham’s influence over both Fox viewers and the former president were dire.

He is destroying his legacy.”

  • Election denial

  • In November 2020, Ingraham — not unlike her Fox News colleagues — peddled election conspiracy theories to sow doubt about the integrity of the 2020 presidential election, including hosting disgraced former Trump attorney Sidney Powell. Ingraham called on Powell to explain the conspiracy theory to her audience, and then commented that despite recent fact checks, Powell is “a really top lawyer.”

The Dominion Files revealed that Ingraham wrote a text message to Tucker Carlson on November 15, 2020, “Sidney Powell is a bit nuts. Sorry, but she is.” On November 22, 2020, Ingraham again texted Carlson, “No serious lawyer could believe what they were saying.” Despite knowing that Powell was spreading fraudulent claims, Ingraham failed to alert her audience to the incredulity of Powell’s claims. (The Dominion lawsuit filings also revealed that a producer of her show and a Fox executive acknowledged that claims of Dominion engaging in voter fraud were incorrect and absurd.)

Since the 2020 election, Ingraham has also sown doubt regarding the 2022 midterms and has contributed to doubt about the upcoming 2024 election.

  • Pro-gun rhetoric

  • Laura Ingraham’s rhetoric on guns dismisses the lethal consequences of the weapons, instead directing her vitriol at mass shooting victims, misdirecting viewers away from the roots of gun violence, and attacking gun law reform. In March 2018, her taunting of Parkland school shooting survivor David Hogg caused many advertisers to drop her show.

  • Racism

  • Ingraham has long contributed to spreading racist tropes at Fox News, most notably demanding that NBA star Lebron James should “shut up and dribble” after he appeared in an interview criticizing then-President Donald Trump. Her racism spreads well beyond the realm of sports — Ingraham has consistently attacked the notion of white privilege, acknowledgments of the United States’ history with slavery and racism, efforts to remove statues of Confederate soldiers, and attempts to institute diversity and inclusion.

Most recently, Ingraham expressed her distaste for inclusion by attacking critical race theory and diversity inclusion and equity (DEI) initiatives. According to Media Matters’ internal database, she has hosted right-wing anti-civil rights activist Chris Rufo on The Ingraham Angle at least 31 times, more than any other Fox host.
