Democrats Are “Slave Master[s]”: Ted Nugent's History Of Inflammatory Rhetoric

In his latest Washington Times column, Ted Nugent suggested that the Democratic Party is a “modern-day slave master” to low-income Americans. This is just the latest in Nugent's long history of violent and inflammatory rhetoric that has often targeted President Obama and other Democrats, as well as gays, Muslims, and environmental activists.

Nugent: Democratic Party Is “Modern-Day Slave Master” To Low-Income Americans

Nugent: Democratic Party Is A “Modern-Day Slave Master” To “Poor, Unemployed,” And Republicans “Want To Liberate Them.” In a June 18 Washington Times column, Ted Nugent suggested that the Democratic Party is the “modern-day slave master” to low-income Americans, writing that Democrats “convinc[e] them that evil, greedy Republicans are the reason they are poor, unemployed and underemployed” and that “many are obviously too clueless to see which political party is their modern-day slave master and which one wants to liberate them.” From the Times:

When historians look back at this time in our history, I recommend they call this era “The Great American Taxpayer Fleecing.”

This, of course, will not apply to those 50 percent of Americans who pay no income taxes. They get fleeced and conned in other ways, such as the Democratic Party convincing them that evil, greedy Republicans are the reason they are poor, unemployed and underemployed. Sadly, many are obviously too clueless to see which political party is their modern-day slave master and which one wants to liberate them. [The Washington Times, 7/18/11]

Nugent's Comments Follow A Long History Of Inflammatory Rhetoric

Nugent Celebrated Independence Day By Calling For An “Uprising” To “Save America.” In a June 30 Washington Times column, Nugent declared that if Thomas Jefferson were alive today, he “would not be celebrating our independence but rather encouraging Americans to revolt once again” because “our republic” has been “financially raped, pillaged and plundered by our King George-like professional politicians, who buy our votes with our tax dollars by creating vast federal handout programs, departments and agencies that Uncle Sugar Daddy was never intended or designed to create or manage.” Nugent concluded by telling readers: “On this Independence Day, sit down with your children, loved ones, friends, neighbors and co-workers and read the Declaration of Independence and discuss it. Get them to commit to a new uprising in which our King George politicians are dethroned and run out of Washington. Be a patriot and save America.” [The Washington Times, 6/30/11]

Nugent: Maybe Obama “Intentionally Wants To Kill Off The Nation's Private Sector.” In a June 15 Washington Times column, Nugent attacked President Obama's economic policies and wrote: “Either the Obama administration does not know its history or it intentionally wants to kill off the nation's private sector. It might be a little of both.” [The Washington Times, 6/15/11]

Nugent To Piers Morgan: “Kiss My Ass.” During the May 26 edition of CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight, Nugent blamed the vast majority of gun violence on the criminal justice system for letting murderers “out of their cages.” He also told Morgan to “kiss my ass.” From the broadcast:

MORGAN: You write this down. Eighty people a day die in America from gunshots.

NUGENT: And 75 of them to 78 of them -- statistics by the Uniform Crime Report by the FBI and the U.N. study on violent crime -- 78 of those 80 are let out of their cages by corrupt judges and prosecutors who know the recidivism is out of control, know that they'll commit the crimes again, and they let them walk through plea bargaining, early release, and programs.

MORGAN: They still --

NUGENT: Kiss my ass. Where you have the most armed citizens in America, you have the lowest violent crime rate.

MORGAN: Yeah. I understand.

NUGENT: Where you have the worst gun control, you have the highest crime rate. [CNN, Piers Morgan Tonight, 5/26/11 via Media Matters]

Nugent Launched Homophobic Rant In Response To NBA's Fining Kobe Bryant For Using Gay Slur. In an April 19 Washington Times column headlined, “NBA's gay gag order,” Nugent criticized the NBA for fining Kobe Bryant for using a gay slur, writing that “Bryant committed this egregious verbal foul because he used a word demeaning to homosexuals, the most protected class of people in America” and that "[t]hose among us who work tirelessly to shut down (and shout down, if the need arises) speech they disagree with must also be absolutely gay with pride and satisfaction over this fine." Nugent further wrote that "[i]f the NBA had any true gay convictions, the NBA should host a Homosexual Night" during which “homosexuals could come down on the court, hold hands and prance around the court to music by the Village People. The NBA could then give each homosexual a pink basketball as a symbol of solidarity.” [The Washington Times, 4/19/11]

Nugent: “Embracing So-Called Green Energy Is An Energy Death Sentence For America.” In an April 4 Washington Times column, Nugent wrote that "[e]mbracing so-called green energy is an energy death sentence for America" and that "[w]hat we need to do is purge ourselves of Mideast oil that is controlled by robe-wearing, voodoo-entranced OPEC mobsters." Nugent concluded: “Just as our defiant forefathers poured English tea into the Boston Harbor, we should tell the current ruling class of bureaucrats they can stick their curly light bulbs where the sun doesn't shine. I got your green energy right here.” [The Washington Times, 4/4/11]

Nugent: "[T]he Majority Of Americans Find Liberalism To Be A Bankrupt, Brain-Dead Political Ideology." In a March 23 Washington Times column, Ted Nugent wrote that “the majority of Americans find liberalism to be a bankrupt, brain-dead political ideology that destroys instead of builds and creates dependence instead of independence.” [The Washington Times, 3/23/11]

Nugent: “No Country” In “Dark Continent” Of Africa “Truly Respects Freedom Or The Rule Of Law.” In a March 21 Washington Times column, Nugent claimed America should not intervene in the “Dark Continent” of Africa because no country there “truly respects freedom or the rule of law.” Nugent claimed, “Once we swat one of these African cockroaches or intervene in their civil war, where do we stop?” From The Washington Times:

Africa isn't called the Dark Continent for no reason. Africa has forever been a political nightmare full of overt corruption, tribal warfare, genocide, murderous regimes and brutal dictators.

There is no country in Africa that truly respects freedom or the rule of law. The majority of countries in Africa are in economic ruin because of political corruption and a history ugly with cruel despotism. That's why starvation and disease are rampant. AIDS is projected to kill as much as half the populations of some countries. Genocide is a way of life. There is little light in Africa.

[...]

Africa is an international scab. Bono of the band U2 advocates that if we forgive debt African nations owe, peace and tranquillity [sic] will sprout up mystically. The real problem is murdering, corrupt thugs and punks like Col. Gadhafi. Once we swat one of these African cockroaches or intervene in their civil war, where do we stop?

America can't solve all the world's problems, nor should it try. We have enough of our own problems to address without getting involved in a Libyan civil war.

Spending national treasure by bombing Libya is not wise when we have no strategic interest in Libya and we are bankrupt. It would have been much cheaper for the CIA to arrange for the cockroach colonel's demise than to spend billions and billions of dollars that we don't have in hopes he is toppled. Whatever happened to that wonderful American ingenuity of improvise, adapt and overcome? [The Washington Times, 3/21/11]

Nugent Calls Holder A “Racist Punk.” In a March 14 Washington Times column, Nugent repeatedly called Attorney General Eric Holder “racist,” highlighting a request by the Department of Justice that the city of Dayton, Ohio, lower the passing scores for its police exams because they reportedly did “not meet terms of a lawsuit settlement that require the city to hire more black police and firefighters.” [The Washington Times, 3/14/11; Dayton Daily News, 2/17/11]

Nugent: “It's Hard To Argue” That Obama Isn't “Out To Destroy America.” In a February 8 column, Nugent wrote that “there are some Americans who think Mr. Obama is out to destroy America or at to least [sic] reduce the country to the equivalent of a Third World country.” He then added, “Sadly, it's hard to argue with the flow of evidence.” [The Washington Times, 2/8/11]

Nugent Following Tucson Shooting: “I Say Conservatives Should Turn Up The Rhetoric.” In a January 13 Washington Times column, Nugent wrote that "[i]n the wake of violence perpetrated by a Tucson lunatic, liberals and others who should know better are calling for political rhetoric to be toned down." He later declared, “I say conservatives should turn up the rhetoric,” and that "[o]nly softheaded, feel-good fantasizers from the cult of denial could believe that toning down the political rhetoric will somehow keep lunatics from doing loony things." [The Washington Times, 1/13/11]

Nugent Compared Janet Napolitano To “Tax Cheat” In Charge Of Treasury, “Closet Racist” In Charge Of DOJ. In a January 4 Washington Times column, Nugent wrote that "[p]utting [Janet] Napolitano in charge of Homeland Security is analogous to putting a tax cheat in charge of the Department of Treasury or a closet racist in charge of the Department of Justice." [The Washington Times, 1/4/11]

Nugent Compared Democratic Initiatives To 9-11, Civil War, Great Depression. In a November 9, 2010, Washington Times column, Nugent wrote: “Domestically, we have gone through a bloody civil war, a catastrophic dust bowl, a Great Depression, Sept 11, 2001 and survived a number of attempts by the Democratic Party to destroy America.” Nugent also called for an end to entitlement spending such as “Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security,” stating: “If we are to save the country for future generations of Americans and ensure they have more opportunity than we do, we must address entitlement spending and address it now. Then kill it all.” [The Washington Times, 11/9/10]

Nugent Introduced The “Uncle Ted Crowbar Of Logic.” In a July 9, 2010, Washington Times column, Nugent introduced his “Uncle Ted crowbar of logic” and said that he is “compelled to increase my crowbar swinging to new heights every day” because of “a community-organizer-in-chief whose terminal rookie agenda is maniacally to spend our way out of debt and drop charges against clear and present criminal New Black Panther thugs threatening voters in Philadelphia, to black-robed idiots claiming Americans have no right to self-defense, where pimps, whores and welfare brats party hearty with the mindless fantasy that Fedzilla will wipe their butts eternally, ad nauseam.” Nugent further wrote: “Some things, like life, are indeed sacred, and where gun control freaks have their way, innocent lives will always pay the ultimate price. Gun-free zones are a murderer's playgrounds. People who value life must do all we can to ban gun-free zones. Join the NRA.” [The Washington Times, 7/9/10]

Nugent Used New Black Panthers Case As An Excuse For Race-Baiting. In a July 7, 2010, Washington Times column -- subtitled, “Obama protects the racists who back him” -- Nugent used the manufactured scandal surrounding the New Black Panther Party voter-intimidation case as an opportunity for race-baiting. From Nugent's op-ed:

Whether you believe Mr. Adams or not, the smoke swirling around this case gives serious pause to question whether racist flames are being fanned at the department.

Decisions such as these give an objective and fair-minded person such as me reason to pause. Where there is smoke there usually is fire.

And there have been plenty of smoke signals from the Obama camp since it took over.

You may recall that before Justice dropped the charges against the Panther thugs, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. stated during his first major speech at the department, during Black History Month, “When it comes to race, [America] continues to be, in many ways, essentially a nation of cowards.”

Mr. Holder did not give any specifics to substantiate his comments, which caused many Americans to think his remarks were fanning the flames of racism -- including yours truly, the Motown Madman, carrier of the mighty Funkbrother torch.

President Obama then waded into the racial rapids in another matter by jumping to conclusions and siding with his black professor buddy who rightfully had been arrested by a white Cambridge, Mass., cop for resisting arrest. Turns out the facts did not support Mr. Obama's initial statements. The uproar over this racially charged situation caused the president to invite the white arresting officer and his black professor buddy to the White House for beers. So very presidential.

Moreover, before he was elected president, for more than 20 years, Mr. Obama and his family attended a church run by a maniacally racist minister who preached black racist theology. Mr. Obama quit the church when an ungodly, damning video of his racist minister came to light, unbelievably claiming he had missed the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's viciousness all those years. Yeah, right, and “Wango Tango” is a love song.

Are there racist flames here? That's for you to decide. [The Washington Times, 7/7/10]

Nugent: “Profile Or Die.” In a May 7, 2010, Washington Times column, Nugent compared black and white spotted Dalmatians that “have been attacking kids all over town,” to “Muslim monsters whose self-avowed 'religion' is to wipe out Americans,” in order to suggest we should “profile” because “we know what they look like. And they are everywhere.” [The Washington Times, 5/7/10]

Nugent's Live Performances Have Included Violent, Offensive Rhetoric. On the August 24, 2007, edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, co-host Sean Hannity aired video footage of Nugent at an August 21 concert calling Obama a “piece of shit” and referring to Hillary Clinton as a “worthless bitch.” In the video clip, Nugent held up what appeared to be two assault rifles and said he told Obama “to suck on my machine gun” and that he told Clinton “you might want to ride one of these into the sunset.” [Fox News, Hannity & Colmes, 8/24/07 via Media Matters]
