Tucker Carlson hosts guest who attended a white supremacist conference to rewrite the events of January 6

On the June 15 broadcast of Tucker Carlson Tonight, Carlson hosted Darren Beattie, who left Donald Trump’s White House after reporting emerged that he attended a white nationalist conference, to discuss a “report” published on far-right outfit Revolver that suggests the January 6 attack on the Capitol may have been orchestrated by FBI operatives.

During the episode, Carlson claimed, without presenting any tangible proof, that “in potentially every single case,” unindicted co-conspirators referenced in legal cases related to January 6 “were FBI operatives.”

Carlson said Beattie’s piece explains that “the FBI was organizing the riots of January 6.” “It certainly suggests that possibility,” said Beattie.

Weeks before the 2020 presidential election, Beattie appeared on Carlson's show to warn that the increase in mail-in voting during the pandemic would create "a very specific type of coup called the color revolution.” Beattie claimed that “color revolution professionals” were generating election fraud in order “to use lawfare in order to overturn the 2020 election.”

Describing Beattie's commentary with Carlson at the time, my colleague Matt Gertz concluded: “This sort of demagoguery can come with a heavy price. ... There’s still six weeks to go before the election. How will this spate of violent rhetoric end?”

Well now we know: a violent attack on the seat of government, and now Carlson and Beattie trying to blame the FBI for the whole thing.

Beattie also previously appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight to level baseless accusations against NBC reporter Brandy Zadrozny.

Carlson himself is no stranger to collaborating with bigotry. In July of 2020, Tucker Carlson Tonight’s head writer, Blake Neff, resigned after a CNN investigation found that Neff was an avid participant on racist message boards. Carlson’s former project The Daily Caller has a well-documented history of platforming and promoting prominent white nationalists. And then, of curse, there is Carlson's own track record.

The Fox host spent much of 2021 scrambling to rewrite the January 6 attack on the Capitol, and to minimize the severity of a mob storming the seat of Congress in an attempt to derail an election. Despite Carlson’s insistence that there’s a massive cover-up of the truth around the Capitol riot, the host has attacked attempts to investigate the event. He has also insisted there was no insurrection at all.
