Right-wing media figures castigate Fox News for pushing “blatant propaganda” on the war in Iran

Former Fox hosts and other right-wing media figures have called out the network for “cheerleading” Trump’s war

Right-wing media figures including former hosts for Fox News are calling out the network for its sycophantic coverage of the Iran war.

Ex-Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly are attacking their former employer over its role in promoting President Donald Trump's Iran war, with Kelly accusing Fox of “cheerleading” the conflict and Carlson claiming the network is advocating for escalating to a ground invasion. Other right-wing media figures have similarly accused the outlet of “endless cheerleading” for the war and spreading “blatant propaganda.”

  • Trump's Iran war has divided much of right-wing media, with Fox News spearheading positive coverage

    • Since the start of Trump's Iran war, right-wing media figures have been split over support for the administration’s actions. While prominent figures like Ben Shapiro and Fox News' Mark Levin praised the war, others including Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones have criticized it. The Daily Wire's Michael Knowles argued the conflict risks Trump’s “entire presidential legacy.” [Media Matters, 3/2/26]
    • Multiple right-wing media figures have drawn a line in the sand against putting U.S. troops on the ground in Iran. Regardless of support for the war, many right-wing media figures initially came out against putting American “boots on the ground.” Fox News' Sean Hannity initially opposed sending U.S. ground troops but appears to have since changed his mind, suggesting “there might be a necessity.” [Media Matters, 3/4/263/27/26]
    • Across both terms as president, Trump has regularly shaped his policies seemingly in response to what he saw from Fox News. In the buildup to the Iran war, Fox News figures repeatedly urged Trump to attack while offering little argument for the supposed goals of the operation. This feedback loop went both ways, as Trump used his own social media platform to promote an upcoming episode of Mark Levin's show in which the host advocated for putting boots on the ground. • Former Fox hosts Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson have criticized the network’s fawning coverage of Trump’s war with Iran

  • Megyn Kelly called Fox's Iran war coverage “insufferable”

    • In the opening days of Trump’s attacks on Iran, Kelly claimed “Fox News is insufferable right now” and stated, “If I were a Fox anchor right now, I'd know exactly what to do: cheerlead. Cheerlead. That's it.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show3/2/26]
    • Referencing the Iraq war, Kelly bemoaned her past work at Fox News “cheerleading these wars,” and said she refuses to do it again with Iran. She said, “I spent 14 years at Fox News cheerleading these wars — I mean cheerleading them, I take full responsibility for doing exactly that. And I mean in the dark days of these wars, Piers, where we were seeing guys beheaded, we were seeing American troops put in cages and burned to death. We had to do the surge where we doubled down on sending ground troops over there. We created ISIS — all these national domestic terror threats rising. We all cheerled our troops’ efforts on the ground. We accepted all the administration's bullshit that was being shoved down our throats about Iraq and Afghanistan. … And I refuse to be a part of that again.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show3/23/26]
    • Kelly also said that the Fox News personalities who talked Trump into the war “should be held to account.” Kelly said, “Marc Thiessen of Fox News and [Fox senior strategic analyst and retired Army] Gen. Jack Keane were major advocates of the war,” and she also claimed that Fox host Mark Levin is “chief among them. …. Every night on Fox News out there urging the president to do this, and then he had a meeting with him in June where we know — he denies it now — we know he pushed him for this.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show3/27/26]
    • Kelly criticized Fox’s coverage saying “you will not find a dissenting voice on Fox News,” and called Sean Hannity’s show “full propaganda.” Kelly said that people who watch Hannity’s prime-time Fox show think the war in Iran is going “swimmingly,” because his show is “full propaganda.” Kelly additionally said the segment during which Fox host Will Cain “felt so uncomfortable challenging” network analyst Jack Keane on Iran “tells you everything you need to know about the dynamic inside Fox,” adding that Cain is “actually quite strong, but he knew he was on thin ice going there because the bosses would not like this.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show3/27/26]
    • Kelly suggested Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran was “because he watches too much Fox News.” She said, “Trump was the taker. Trump was the one who was talked into it because he watches too much Fox News. And he got persuaded by the messaging that's there.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show4/2/26]
    • Kelly: “If you turn on Fox News, you only have one message, and there is a reason for that.” Kelly noted that podcasters in the “independent lane” are “able to report very openly and honestly on the folly of what we're doing here, and the reversal, and the betrayal that this was to Trump's campaign promises.” In comparison, Kelly stated, “If you turn on Fox News, you only have one message.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show, 4/6/26]

Tucker Carlson called Fox “the world headquarters for boots on the ground”

    • One week into the fighting, Carlson listed Fox News as a source of bad information misleading Trump about the popularity of war with Iran. Carlson called out Trump for “watching Fox News,” suggesting it was telling him that “this war is like a 90-10 win for him” and adding that “he’s getting fake polling — I guess they’re only polling Sean Hannity’s viewers or something.” [YouTube, The Tucker Carlson Show3/6/26]
    • Carlson accused Fox of sidelining someone because they asked “one question” about the war. Carlson claimed Rupert Murdoch's outlets have been “relentlessly pushing for this” war, adding, “There was one person, whose name I don't want to mention because I don't want to hurt this person, who asked one question like, really? Is this really a good idea? And that person has never addressed the topic again.” [YouTube, The Clayton Morris Show3/18/26]
    • Carlson said “the world headquarters for boots on the ground would of course be Fox News.” [YouTube, The Tucker Carlson Show3/25/26
  • Other right-wing media figures similarly criticized Fox News pushing “blatant propaganda” in Iran war coverage

    • Newsmax host Rob Finnerty said that there has been “endless cheerleading happening on some of the other networks like Fox, which has just been ridiculous.” Finnerty compared the Iran war to the U.S. attacking Iraq in 2003: “Americans supported that invasion. Congress supported that invasion. They do not support this.” [Newsmax, Finnerty3/3/26]
    • Infowars host Harrison Smith said Fox News hosts’ “blatant propaganda strategy” is “jarring.” He added, “I turn on Greg Gutfeld, and it's Greg Gutfeld like we killed the ayatollah and his council of elders. It's just like a picture of, like a bunch of goats with turbans on. And it's like huh, we're really doing this, huh? The ayatollah is a goat, is he? OK, we're back to that level of propaganda. It's shameful, man. Shameless.” [YouTube, Gray Area3/9/26]
    • Podcaster and former Trump strategist Steve Bannon called out Fox contributor Marc Thiessen and network host Mark Levin and compared Fox News’ cheerleading for war to its support in the early days of the Iraq War. After naming Thiessen and Levin, Bannon said, “You see Fox and you see all these haters of Trump, and they're glazing President Trump. They're over the top in the same cheerleading you saw about the Iraq War, particularly in the first days. And remember, folks, you got a long way to go on this thing.” [Real America's Voice, War Room3/1/26]
    • Nick Fuentes said that Trump is “being fed propaganda through Fox News, which Israel controls.” He said, “Trump stumbled into this conflict, no idea what would happen, no plan, no contingency. And Netanyahu, the master, the maestro, who's orchestrating the whole thing, he knows exactly how this has to go, the tempo, whether we're going fast or slow. He knows what he wants from this. He knows what he wants out of Trump. And Trump is just being fed propaganda through Fox News every day, which Israel controls.” [Rumble, America First3/18/26]
    • Conservative pundit Ann Coulter compared Fox’s war coverage to its past promotion of 2020 election misinformation. She wrote, “Watching Fox News assure viewers the Iran war is going SUPER well and Trump is a total stud is like watching the same network assure viewers that Dominion Voting Systems rigged the 2020 election and Trump was the winner.” [CNN, Reliable Sources3/30/26]
    • On Newsmax, former Trump official Fred Fleitz argued Fox News personalities are “campaigning to invade Iran.” He told host Greg Kelly, “I'm sort of irritated when I watch Fox News, which is very rarely because I watch Newsmax, and I see these people campaigning to invade Iran. I don't want one American soldier to go into Iran.” [Newsmax, Greg Kelly Reports3/27/26]
