GETTR CEO and former Trump spokesman Jason Miller has made appearances on multiple fringe right-wing media shows recently, including conspiracy theory outlet Infowars, a podcast hosted by a Seth Rich conspiracy theorist, and a 24-hour QAnon streaming platform. As a former co-host of Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, Miller has also made repeated appearances on that show to promote GETTR as his “free speech” alternative to Twitter.

In a January 7 appearance on Infowars, Miller gave a “special thank you” to host Alex Jones and “the folks who are obviously your fans and your listeners and viewers, because without folks like yourself at the beginning of this, we wouldn’t even have gotten to the point” where figures like vaccine skeptic Dr. Robert Malone and Joe Rogan are joining the platform. 

Jones responded, “Well, I appreciate you, brother, but I’m very excited about GETTR.”

Unsurprisingly, Miller and Jones ignored Rogan’s recent comments trashing the platform and expressing regret for joining it. On his podcast, Rogan said GETTR was “fugazi” because the platform misleadingly migrates users’ follower counts from other platforms to portray them as having a bigger audience on the site than they do. (In fact, Rogan’s follower count on GETTR is significantly higher than the platform’s total user base.) Rogan also decried the platform for it’s connections to shady billionaire and Bannon ally Miles Guo.

On January 12, Miller went on The Matt Couch Show to promote GETTR as a “safe space for political thought.” Host Matt Couch was a major proponent of the Seth Rich conspiracy theory, a right-wing smear campaign that falsely claimed the Democratic National Committee staffer, who was tragically murdered in 2016, leaked DNC emails to WikiLeaks to undermine Hillary Clinton’s candidacy for president. In 2018, Rich’s brother Aaron sued Couch and former Fox News guest Ed Butowsky for their lies that he was involved in both WikiLeaks and Seth’s murder.

Miller also periodically appears on his old stomping grounds, War Room: Pandemic, to promote GETTR. War Room is a cesspool of conspiracy theories and ground zero for organizing an effort to infiltrate the Republican Party with pro-Trump extremists in low-level positions. On December 22, Miller appeared on Bannon’s show in a Santa costume to promote the winner of $20,000 in GETTR’s “home for the holidays contest” following an extended ad for the platform.

And in November, Miller gave an interview to 24-hour QAnon channel Patriots’ Soapbox to promote GETTR. In addition to promoting the QAnon conspiracy theory, Patriots’ Soapbox has also joined Bannon in pushing the so-called “precinct strategy” to take over the GOP.

It’s worth noting that at the same time Miller has appeared on War Room and Infowars, he’s also pushed the same talking point on conspiracy theorist Maria Bartiromo’s show on Fox Business.

GETTR is home to many far-right misinformers and bad actors that have been deplatformed from Twitter, including Alex Jones and Steve Bannon, as well as MAGA internet personality Stew Peters, Islamophobe Laura Loomer, Newsmax's Emerald Robinson, meme lord Carpe Donktum, Robert Malone, and QAnon heroes Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Michael Flynn and Sidney Powell, among others.

It’s clear Miller is hinging his platform’s user growth on recruiting an audience from the fringe platforms of the far-right fever swamps. This strategy echoes the trajectories of similar conservative social media platforms like Gab and Parler, which have been central organizing hubs for multiple instances of far-right violence in recent years.
