JEREMY PETERS (THE NEW YORK TIMES): [When you] talk to people around the president who understand his state of mind right now and really understand how he views the Mueller investigation, there's two emotions at work here. One is, Donald Trump appears to be quite rattled by this investigation. That's why he's asking people, "what are they asking? What's going on in the investigation? How'd the questioning go?" Because he's a little spooked.
On the other hand, he's also very arrogantly and dismissively brushing this off as nothing, right? He's been told by certain advisers ‘the president can't get indicted.’ He's been told he won't, in fact, have to sit down with Mueller, and you have people around him, like Sean Hannity who are saying, ‘this is a political witch hunt. This is not going to get -- affect you. You don't have to take it seriously.’ And when Sean Hannity is your chief legal, political, and spiritual adviser, that’s going to fill your head with this kind of nonchalance about this investigation. Which is why -- it could help explain why he's acting so recklessly.
