Boyles touted “write-up in a national magazine,” without noting his business partner wrote it

630 KHOW-AM host Peter Boyles promoted a “big write-up” he and Don Wrege, his business partner, had in a national industry magazine numerous times during his March 27 and 29 broadcasts. But Boyles failed to note that the article was, in fact, written by Wrege.

During the March 27 and 29 broadcasts of his 630 KHOW-AM show, host Peter Boyles boasted at least eight times that he and his business partner, parody songwriter Don Wrege, “got a write-up in a national magazine” for their political parody production company, without noting that Wrege himself had authored the “write-up.”

On March 27, Boyles noted that “there's a magazine out called Talkers Magazine, and it comes out once a month and it's about our business [radio talk shows]." Boyles then boasted that he and songwriter Wrege "[got] a big write-up in" the magazine for their production company, Mediawhore, which creates political song parodies. Similarly, during the March 29 broadcast, Boyles had Wrege on his show to “do a hats off” for their “write-up in a national magazine.” Later Boyles said, “A national mag on, it's called Talkers, about our business -- did a big piece on Donnie and Mediawhore, and so we'll ... play a medley of our [song parody] hit.”

Although Boyles mentioned the Talkers Magazine article at least eight times during the two broadcasts, he failed to note that Wrege wrote the “big piece” to which he kept referring. A link on the magazine's website identifies Wrege as the author of the article (subscription required), “Confessions of a media whore”:

BOULDER, Colo. -- An extremely expensive executive counselor once told me that my constant letters to various Denver/Boulder, Colorado newspapers represented, “a sad cry for attention.” He suggested I stop, and I took most of his advice; I started calling radio stations instead.

From the March 27 broadcast of 630 KHOW-AM's The Peter Boyles Show:

BOYLES: By the way, there's a magazine out called Talkers Magazine, and it comes out once a month and it's about our business. Don Wrege and I get a big write-up in it. So I'll see if we can get Wrege on the show a little later.

From the March 29 broadcast of 630 KHOW-AM's The Peter Boyles Show:

BOYLES: Don Wrege -- we'll go back to Mediawhore productions. Mediawhore productions, Don Wrege/Peter Boyles Present -- we got a write-up in a national magazine. So I thought, well, why not? We'll do a hats off to Don Wrege. And then [Minuteman Project co-founder] Chris Simcox will be with us.

[...]

BOYLES: Don Wrege will be with us from Mediawhore Productions. He's come down to be in the studio. A national mag on, it's called Talkers, about our business -- did a big piece on Donnie and Mediawhore, and so we'll -- we'll, we'll play a medley of our hit. [Laughs] There are just some crazy, crazy things going on in our world.

BOYLES: There's a thing, Talkers Magazine, and “Confessions of a media whore,” and it's a national mag. And Don, of course, is multimedia producer, lives in Boulder. And we were all together through -- actually, we've got some more coming up, too. So hold on to your hats 'cause it gets much better.
