J. Christian Adams Reportedly Appearing With “Anti-Muslim Hate Group” at CPAC

J Christian AdamsPamela Geller reports on her Atlas Shrugs blog that right-wing lawyer and Obama Justice Department critic J. Christian Adams will be participating in a CPAC 2012 panel presented by her Stop Islamization of America organization. Geller writes of the panel, titled “Islamic Law in America, How the Obama Justice Department Is Selling Us Out”:

The Obama Justice Department is not just tolerating, but actively aiding the assertion of Islamic law in the U.S., and the primacy of Sharia over U.S. law. This explosive conference will give the details of that effort and show Americans what we must do now to preserve our Constitutional freedoms.

In 2010, Adams set off a right-wing media firestorm after he left the DOJ, offering since-discredited claims that the Justice Department's actions in the New Black Panther Party case demonstrated racially charged corruption. He has since used his position as a blogger for the right-wing site Pajamas Media, often issuing false attacks on the Obama DOJ for its supposed politicization and “racial agenda,” and he recently authored a book on the subject filled with falsehoods, misrepresentations, and baseless allegations.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled SIOA as an “anti-Muslim hate group,” while the Anti-Defamation League describes the group as follows:

Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), created in 2009, promotes a conspiratorial anti-Muslim agenda under the guise of fighting radical Islam. The group seeks to rouse public fears by consistently vilifying the Islamic faith and asserting the existence of an Islamic conspiracy to destroy “American” values. The organization warns of the encroachment of shari'a, or Islamic law, and encourages Muslims to leave what it describes as the “falsity of Islam.”

The ADL further reports of Geller, SIOA associate director Robert Spencer, and attorney David Yerushalmi, who Geller says are participating on the panel:

Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, who took over the group's leadership in April 2010, view SIOA as protecting against a powerful and dangerous “Islamic machine” that stands to threaten the security and cultural fabric of the U.S. Geller, in views she outlines in her blog, has linked Islam to bestiality and rape of minors and described the Qur'an as “inspiring” violence. Geller has also charged that Muslim immigration has caused “rampant” honor killings in North America and Europe, compared Muslims to Nazis and asserted that Hitler was inspired by Islam.

Geller and Spencer work closely with David Yerushalmi, an Arizona attorney with a record of anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and anti-black bigotry. Yerushalmi is one of the driving forces behind Shari'a-related conspiracy theories and growing efforts to ban or restrict the use of Shari'a law in American courts.

Geller and Spencer have recently targeted the TLC reality show All-American Muslim; Geller described the show as “an attempt to manipulate Americans into ignoring the threat of jihad,” while Spencer said the “problem” is that the show depicts Muslims who are “undoubtedly harmless, completely uninterested in jihad and Islamic supremacism.”

Last year, we noted that Adams' participation at CPAC put an end to the suggestion that he was a neutral or impartial observer of supposed Justice Department “corruption.” His reported association with the likes of Geller and Spencer show how far he has gone down the right-wing rabbit hole.
