As Minneapolis prosecutors resign over pressure to investigate Renee Good’s widow, right-wing media call for her arrest

As federal prosecutors in Minnesota are resigning over pressure to investigate Renee Good’s widow, who was present when an ICE agent killed Good last week, some in right-wing media have been calling for Good’s wife to be arrested, saying she committed a “felony” and that Good’s death “was more the fault of the wife than the fault of the cop.” 

  • Senior Justice Department officials are pushing for an investigation into Good’s widow, who was present at the shooting, and six prosecutors have resigned in response

    • Renee Good’s wife, Becca Good, was present when she was shot, and both engaged with some of the ICE agents before the shooting. The Associated Press described a “series of exchanges” shown in one video of the shooting: “‘That’s fine, I’m not mad at you,’ Good says as the officer passes by her door. She has one hand on the steering wheel and the other outside the open driver side window. ‘U.S. citizen, former f---ing veteran,’ says her wife, standing outside the passenger side of the SUV holding up her phone. ‘You wanna come at us, you wanna come at us, I say go get yourself some lunch big boy.’” Right before the shots are fired, Becca Good appears to say, “Drive, baby, drive. Drive.” [The Associated Press, 1/9/26]
    • Becca Good wrote in a later statement that they had “stopped to support our neighbors” when they got into a confrontation with ICE agents. “Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole,” Good wrote, and Minnesota Public Radio reported that “those were the values that brought the Goods to stop during an ICE operation in south Minneapolis.” [MPRNews, 1/9/26]
    • Six Minnesota federal prosecutors have resigned over a push by the Justice Department to investigate Becca Good. The New York Times reported that the Justice Department is looking to “examine ties between Ms. Good and her wife, Becca, and several groups that have been monitoring and protesting the conduct of immigration agents in recent weeks.” Per the Times, one Minnesota prosecutor, Joseph H. Thompson, “objected to that approach, as well as to the Justice Department’s refusal to include state officials in investigating whether the shooting itself was lawful, the people familiar with his decision said.” Five other prosecutors also resigned.   • Right-wing media figures are calling for Becca Good’s arrest, accusing her of a “felony,” and blaming her for her wife’s death

    • Newsmax host Greg Kelly claimed Becca Good was “instigating the whole damn thing” and “should be charged.” He added, “It's really important to understand how nasty this Becca person is, the wife who may have instigated the whole thing,” and suggested she has “LGBT queer immunity.” [Newsmax, Greg Kelly Reports, 1/12/26]
    • Greg Kelly later said Renee Good's “mouthy wife” is “a terrible, terrible individual” who “should be in a lot of trouble.” Kelly claimed, “She seems to understand that she bears some responsibility here,” later adding that “it seems like she was the one calling the shots.” [Newsmax, Greg Kelly Reports, 1/12/26]
    • Podcaster Megyn Kelly claimed Good’s wife committed a “felony” and should be arrested for “aiding and abetting the resisting of arrest and the fleeing from a crime scene.” Kelly stated, “That wife should be under arrest. She should. She was aiding and abetting the resisting of arrest and the fleeing from a crime scene. She's committing a felony. You could make a good case for felony murder here.  She should be in custody right now, that woman.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show, 1/12/26]

    • Right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson: “You’ve got to charge the wife or the partner here” with attempted murder. He added, “Because she goes go, baby, go, baby, go as soon as she sees the ICE agent in front of her vehicle. Sorry, ma’am, not going to work out for you.” [YouTube, The Benny Show, 1/12/26]
    • On War Room, right-wing commentator Jack Posobiec said Becca Good is “complicit” in Renee Good’s death and should be “brought up on federal charges.” Posobiec claimed, “This was a planned operation. Under the felony murder rule, you are also liable for that death. There’s no question about it.”  [Real America’s Voice, War Room, 1/9/26]
    • Posobiec also posted on social media that “felony murder may even apply” to Becca Good. Posobiec: “If the ‘wife’ Rebecca Good planned the illegal road blockade with Renee Good then she is also complicit in her death.     • Conservative host Rudy Giuliani claimed Becca Good “has actually admitted in a spontaneous declaration, which is the legal term for it if we want to put it in evidence, ‘It's my fault.’” [LindellTV, The Rudy Giuliani Show, 1/12/26]
    • After several prosecutors reportedly resigned over the push to investigate Becca Good, Article III Project’s Will Chamberlain attempted to justify the investigation, claiming, “Renee Good’s wife commits multiple federal crimes.” He continued: “She reveals the existence of a conspiracy to violate 18 USC 111, to obstruct or impede federal law enforcement. She then actually intimidates federal law enforcement, violating 18 USC 111. She then incites her partner to flee a lawful arrest and to commit an aggravated assault against a federal law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon by hitting the gas. These crimes must be answered for. And if the career prosecutors in Minnesota are too partisan to do their jobs, Main Justice under Pam Bondi and Todd Blanche most certainly will find prosecutors who will.” [Twitter/X, 1/13/26]
