Trump snaps at NBC reporter for debunking his claim that Walmart’s Thanksgiving dinner will be cheaper this year than last

The Walmart Thanksgiving dinner bundle Trump has repeatedly touted actually contains less food than last year's

In multiple social media posts and public remarks this week, President Donald Trump dismissed political concerns over the growing affordability crisis that he has made worse during his second term by touting a Walmart press announcement that its 2025 Thanksgiving dinner bundle costs less this year than last year.

But when NBC News White House correspondent Monica Alba noted that this year’s bundle contains less food than last year’s, Trump immediately asked which network she was affiliated with and then replied: “Fake news. You’re fake news.”

A November 6 NBC News article reported that although “Trump is right” that the cost of Walmart’s Thanksgiving dinner bundle is 25% lower than the previous year, it is “also smaller than the 2024 package.” From the article:

This year’s package, at less than $40, contains 23 items; last year, there were 29. The missing items this year include onions, celery, sweet potatoes, chicken broth, poultry seasoning, muffin mix, marshmallows, whipped topping and pecan pie.

This year’s meal comes with standard dinner rolls and fresh cranberries, which both currently cost less at Walmart than the sweet Hawaiian rolls and cranberry sauce in last year’s edition.

The 2025 meal also includes just one can of cream of mushroom soup, down from two in 2024.

Walmart did make some additions to its new package, including a twin pack of turkey stuffing, baby carrots and three boxes of macaroni and cheese. Last year, Walmart included ingredients to make stuffing from scratch.

Users on X also added this context to a White House social media account reposting Trump’s announcement of the cheaper Walmart Thanksgiving dinner bundle.
