Great Stars & Stripes Investigation Finds Deaths 'In the Line of Duty' Often Wrong

The independent military newspaper has another great report, noting many deaths of servicemen and women are often wrongly classifed as being “in the line of duty.”

From the story:

Each branch of the military has its own regulations for categorizing a servicemember's death. But the parameters for a finding of personal misconduct are narrow.

"[I]t is better to err on the side of caution rather than deprive a family benefits in instances in which the facts are inconclusive and do not rise past the clear and convincing threshold," Navy spokeswoman Katie Suich said in an e-mail.

But why were two deaths found to be caused by New Year's Eve partying with drugs classified as being in the line of duty? See the report HERE.
