ASNE Returns, But With Same Old Anti-Press Rules

The American Society of News Editors, the major newspaper editors organization, is returning with its annual convention this weekend after a one-year hiatus.

ASNE canceled last year's event for the first time in decades due to the economic climate. But it returns starting Monday at the J.W. Marriott in Washington, D.C.

I have covered 10 of these in the past and each year they barred the press from asking questions at the events that often include the top editors, publishers, and this year, new media folks. (See list of speakers HERE) Poynter reminds us by posting the limiting restrictions.

Kind of ironic for a major press organization to disallow the press covering its own events from asking questions.
