MICHELANGELO SIGNORILE (HOST): The New York Times has had, and this has been discussed by so many activists, terrible coverage of trans people, and I think that's part of this discussion too, because how can you expect polling to show changes in attitudes or understanding when even the respected news organizations — forget about what Fox, Newsmax, and the rest of them are doing — aren't getting it right?

ARI DRENNEN (GUEST): Something I'm fond of saying is that there's only one cable news network with a paid trans contributor, and that's Fox News with Caitlyn Jenner. Our voices are so often just missing from the media conversation, and so when The New York Times runs pieces that basically ask the question, 'Are there too many trans people?' there's not really anyone to push back and there's not anyone to put that in a broader context. It doesn't really matter one way or another how many trans people there are, there just are trans people. I can't put that another way for folks.
