HOWARD KURTZ (FOX NEWS HOST): What was most striking about yesterday's coverage was that some anchors and commentators began accusing President Trump of lying hours before the Oval Office address and again after his nine-minute speech.
There was also legitimate fact-checking by many outlets, including Fox's Shepard Smith challenging the president's assertions on the level of crime committed by illegal immigrants and his claim that Democrats wanted no funds for border security as opposed to funding a wall. But little fact-checking of the response by [Speaker of the House] Nancy Pelosi and [Sen.] Chuck Schumer. Many pundits also said the president? Not at his best reading a scripted speech. At times though, it seems like the media establishment was debating President Trump rather than just covering and analyzing and fact-checking his televised address.
