Kellogg: “You talk about boots on the ground and people ... basically clutch their pearls. But the fact is, over time, over history, the only way you solve a solution is to put boots on the ground.”

KEITH KELLOGG (GUEST): Look I'm a big believer right now that we just need to secure the Strait of Hormuz. And you can do that with two amphibious ready groups, Marine ready groups that are heading that way. They are a self-contained unit, they've got aviation assets, they've got helicopter assets, they've got 2,500 Marines on each one of the ARG's, they can open up the straits out there and occupy that ground.
Look, I'm a big believer in putting boots on the ground, not necessarily into Iran, but taking Kharg Island and also taking the Strait of Hormuz. Look we kind of need to do it the way the Romans used to do it. You know, you need to put your legions on the ground to secure the territory and give them confidence that they can do it, that we can open up the Strait. Look I know there's risk involved, there's always risk involved but those kids, those young men and women, they understand the risk involved in taking both Kharg and opening up the Strait of Hormuz as well. So they've got the ability to do it, the amphibious ready groups for the Marines, they can open up the lower half of the Strait, do it. Then I'd turn around maybe to the 82nd Airborne Division or Rangers or somebody like that to take Kharg Island. I would be able to control the, basically the oil outflow of Iran.
...
KELLOGG: I have great confidence in our men and women in the military, and especially of the Marine Corps, that they're able to do their job. But I think it's a two-part effort though, I just don't think you can only open the strait. But you can also go after Kharg Island which is basically the economic lifeline. See, I'm one of those believers that -- I know you talk about boots on the ground and people rub their hands in a negative manner or basically clutch their pearls. But the fact is, over time, over history, the only way you solve a solution is to put boots on the ground and control the environment. You can do certain things from the air, you can do certain things from the sea, but there's time you have to occupy land, like I said earlier, just like the Romans did.
