BILL HEMMER (CO-HOST): Something over the weekend, too. A downhill skier -- Gus Kenworthy is his name -- he's an American. Apparently, he tweeted -- I think you're going to have to take the Twitter away from the athletes. He tweeted something about Ivanka Trump asking like why she was there and used shorthand for an expression that says, "Why in the world?" Is that clean enough?

HOWARD KURTZ: That's clean enough for cable news.

HEMMER: What do you think about that as it relates to maybe the IOC, or the [International] Olympic Committee? There's a whole new facet of these athletes. They're expressing themselves on the world stage, and they've got a platform, Howie. What do you think about that?

KURTZ: And that's the point. Look, all the athletes have every right to speak out. Gus Kenworthy had already criticized Mike Pence. When he broke his thumb, he said, "Well I can still compete but now I don't have to shake the vice president's hand." Adam Rippon did the same thing going after Pence unprovoked. They both are fine athletes who happen to be gay. They don't like this administration. That's fine. When they go to South Korea, they are representing our country, and to turn that into an opportunity to push their own personal partisan politics just feels like the wrong message for me. We are rooting for them. They ought not to be using that stage, that world stage, the whole world watching, Bill, to go after Ivanka, Mike Pence, save it for another time.
