Trump went on a Twitter rant about US soccer star Megan Rapinoe after a Fox host criticized her

Fox host Stuart Varney: “Why don't we just fire her as the co-captain? I would love to see that.”

President Donald Trump wrote several tweets complaining about U.S. women's national soccer team (USWNT) co-captain Megan Rapinoe following this segment, admonishing her “to be proud of the flag that you wear.”

From the June 26 edition of Fox Business' Varney & Co.:

STUART VARNEY (HOST): American's women's soccer co-captain Megan Rapinoe says that she is not planning to go to the White House if the team wins the World Cup. She did not put it politely like that, did she?

ASHLEY WEBSTER (FOX BUSINESS EDITOR): No, she said “I'm not going to the 'F' White House” in an interview with a soccer magazine. This has been going on -- let's not forget that Rapinoe was scolded by President Trump just this week because it was noted that she's decided not to sing the national anthem, not to put her hand on her heart before the game begins. She says she could -- described herself to Yahoo! Sports as a “walking protest when it comes to the Trump administration because of everything I stand for and he doesn't.” So she's taking it out -- she's also by the way, one in support of Colin Kaepernick. She took a knee at a national anthem being played at a game in the U.S. earlier this year. And she says, also she says in this interview, “I don't think we're going to be invited, we're not going to be invited, I doubt that very much.”

VARNEY: Well, she has now split the team. They're now --

WEBSTER: Well, it's just a shame that they're playing so well and got so much momentum going, and then we have to put up with this dark cloud.

VARNEY: Yeah.

SUSAN LI (FOX BUSINESS CORRESPONDENT): But isn't it opportunistic as well?

WEBSTER: Yes.

LI: Because this is probably the time where women's soccer is the focus.

WEBSTER: Biggest stage.

LI: So, she's probably using this opportunity --

VARNEY: Think about this --

LI: -- To make that message heard.

VARNEY: She's co-captain of the team that represents the United States of America.

LI: Yes.

VARNEY: On foreign soil. And what does she do? She insults, with an obscenity, our White House and our president. That is beneath contempt. That is --

WEBSTER: Well, but it's the ultimate stage for her to do this.

LI: And not patriotic. Definitely not.

VARNEY: Utterly wrong of her to do this in the World Cup.

LI: So should she be wearing a flag then in the interview?

VARNEY: Good question.

LI: Well, that's what people are questioning.

VARNEY: Why don't we just fire her as the co-captain?

WEBSTER: Well, OK.

VARNEY: I would love to see that.
