Tucker Carlson gives friendly interview to the officer who said Black people “probably ought to be” shot more by police

On the June 12, 2020 edition of Tucker Carlson Tonight, host Tucker Carlson interviewed Major Travis Yates of the Tulsa, Oklahoma police department.

Earlier this week, Yates had said in a radio interview that he does not believe systematic racism exists; he also claimed in that interview that Black people “probably ought to be” shot more by police. The Tulsa police department has subsequently opened an investigation into Yates.

The mayor of Tulsa issued a statement callling Yates' remarks “dumb” and that “what he did say goes against everything we are trying to achieve in community policing.”

By contrast, Carlson lauded Yates, saying that he was “proud to have [him] on” and that the criticisms against him were “unfair.”

The friendly interview fits in with Fox News’ recent coverage which has consistently promoted the false notion that systematic racism does not exist in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.
