TikTok threw my account down a pro-eating disorder rabbit hole

In June, TikTok blocked search results for the hashtag #SkinnyTok — which was often affiliated with harmful content promoting extreme thinness and glamorizing anorexia — after facing mounting pressure from EU regulators. Despite this ban, TikTok’s own recommendation algorithm still fed users pro-eating disorder content.

We know, because it happened to our account.

The National Eating Disorder Association's website, screening tool, and 24/7 crisis support via text (send NEDA to 741-741) are free resources available for those who need support and treatment options.
