Right-wing media figures make disparaging remarks after Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death

Right-wing media figures responded to the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- a feminist and cultural icon -- with disparaging remarks, attacks on Democrats, and even excitement.

Despite refusing to even hold a hearing for President Barack Obama’s 2016 nomination of Judge Merrick Garland, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has signaled that he will be moving to fill Ginsburg’s seat with President Donald Trump’s nominee. Right-wing media have already fallen in line.

Some also referred to Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s 2018 confirmation, including a report and testimony from Christine Blasey Ford saying he assaulted her at a high school party decades earlier, to attack Democrats in light of an upcoming nomination process.

Others critiqued Ginsburg's religious beliefs and disparaged her support for abortion rights and LGBTQ people.

The co-founder of right-wing outlet LifeSiteNews said he hoped she “repented”:

BREAKING: Pro-abortion Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg dead at 87, 45 days before election

“May God have mercy on her soul,” said John-Henry Westen, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of LifeSiteNews. “Justice Ginsburg was known for her friendship with the late Justice Antonin Scalia, a pro-life Catholic who attended the Traditional Latin Mass. We hope that his faith had an impact on her later in her life, and that she repented of her pro-abortion activism at the end.” [LifeSiteNews, 9/18/20]
