Rupert Murdoch is a conservative media mogul who owns many media properties in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He was the primary executive of News Corporation, the parent company of many newspapers and Fox News. Following Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes’ firing in 2016 over his history of sexual misconduct, Murdoch stepped in as temporary CEO and chairman of Fox. He is now the executive co-chairman of Fox’s new parent company, Fox Corporation, and chairman of the new News Corp. Murdoch’s companies have given millions in donations and even more in favorable airtime to Republicans, and his company News International was central to the U.K. phone hacking scandal. In September 2023, he announced he was stepping down from his positions at Fox Corp. and News Corp.
