OAN figures say Capitol riots are perfect justification for Pence to overturn election

Chanel Rion: Pence “doesn’t have a lot of excuses now,” as “the protesters outside have successfully stopped this process from happening”

Following a lie-filled speech from the president of the United States, a riotous mob of Trump supporters descended on the Capitol building, breaching security in efforts to prevent the peaceful transition of power to President-elect Joe Biden.

According to One America News figures Chanel Rion and Christina Bobb, the storming of the Capitol, which caused both chambers to suspend deliberations, was the perfect opportunity for Vice President Mike Pence to ignore the Constitution and refuse to certify the election results.

In the midst of the riots, OAN host Christina Bobb tweeted that Pence “can solve this now by sending it back to the legislators.”

Similarly, Rion, OAN’s White House correspondent, argued that since the mob “successfully stopped this process from happening” and forced the adjournment of Congress, Pence “doesn’t have a lot of excuses.”

According to Rion, the sole reason Pence hadn’t sent the contested electors back to the states was because he thought “he didn’t have the authority … to adjourn Congress.” Since the riots caused both chambers to adjourn, Rion questioned, “What reason now does Vice President Pence have to not give those electors back to those states who requested them?" (Contrary to lies from right-wing media and the president, Pence's role is ceremonial and he can't actually overturn the election.)
