ROB SCHMITT (HOST): All right. So we're used to this, right? We hear this back-and-forth quite often.
And let's not pretend that the idea of a government shutdown isn't somewhat alluring to most of us, as we all dream of ways to make that massive inflated tumor in Washington smaller.
Party leaders, though, at the White House late today looking to avert this shutdown that's going to hit tomorrow night. Right? Republicans need seven Democrats to pass their budget. There's only 53 in the Senate. They need 60 to get it across.
Schumer thought he had enough leverage with that seven to demand health care for illegal aliens and the return of so many wasteful cuts that we've taken out of this government. That's what they're trying to push through here. But Trump is a much better negotiator, and he's acting right now like he doesn't seem like he cares if the government shuts down, that it could be like DOGE on steroids. He can furlough tons of nonessential government workers, institute reductions in force, meaning he'll direct agencies to fire anybody that are deemed necessary.
