Newsmax host downplays 9/11 when defending Trump hosting Saudi Arabia's crown prince, two weeks after invoking it to attack Mamdani

Rob Finnerty: “Donald Trump is transactional, and 9/11 was almost 25 years ago”

On the November 18 edition of his Newsmax show, Rob Finnerty defended President Donald Trump's decision to host Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman despite the country’s alleged role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Finnerty told his audience that “Trump is transactional, and 9/11 was almost 25 years ago,” before seeming to suggest that “Donald Trump normalizing relationships” with Saudi Arabia will help prevent “another 9/11.” However, just two weeks earlier, Finnerty attacked then-New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for airing an ad in Arabic “just 24 years after Islamic terrorists flew commercial airplanes into the Twin Towers,” calling the language “the native tongue of the terrorists.”

ROB FINNERTY (HOST): Donald Trump is America first. And everything that Donald Trump does for the American public is American first. Saudi Arabia has got a whole lot of oil. And if we have a good relationship with Saudi Arabia, oil prices become more stable in this country, which then brings down inflation. Not to mention the crown prince also promised to invest over a trillion dollars in the U.S. economy, which is a good thing. Donald Trump is transactional, and if we didn't welcome Saudi Arabia in, China would have. The other part — 9/11 families were understandably upset by this, by Donald Trump inviting the crown prince to the White House. But Donald Trump is transactional, and 9/11 was almost 25 years ago. Twenty-five years after the Second World War, Japan and Germany were U.S. allies. Think about that. We are friends with Germany, we are friends with Japan today. Donald Trump was just in Japan last month. That is America first. Donald Trump [is] normalizing relationships so another 9/11 never happens again.

ROB FINNERTY (HOST): We don't speak Arabic in this country. This is ridiculous! That was his final ad released a day ago to 10 million New Yorkers. And everyone thinks this is fine. Arabic is the same language that all 19 of the 9/11 hijackers spoke. Arabic. Meaning just 24 years after Islamic terrorists flew commercial airplanes into the Twin Towers in New York City, the leading candidate for mayor of that city is now campaigning in the native tongue of the terrorists. And we're all supposed to think this is great.
