MERCEDES SCHLAPP (HOST):  Well, you know, the story of the good Samaritan comes from the Bible. It gives us a clear picture of God's desire for us to help those in desperate need. That's something that your organization is doing. How important is having faith right now for the people of Afghanistan and Haiti?

EDWARD GRAHAM (ASSISTANT TO VICE PRESIDENT, SAMARITAN'S PURSE): Now look, we just talked about the failure of men and why my hope has never been in man but in my lord and savior Jesus Christ. I think during our times of greatest trouble and strife, you have to learn to surrender. It's a dirty word in the military, but I had to learn to do that in combat when I lost those that I loved.

But when you're in Haiti right now, in 2010, they reeled through a tragic earthquake then. They're still recovering from that. Now they're recovering from the loss of their president, political turmoil. There's so much destruction and unknown in Haiti.

And many Haitians believe in Vodou and worship the devil and declare the devil their lord. And when you do that, the lord will take your hand off you. And it's my hope and prayer that this nation will repent and turn to their lord and savior.

But it's not my job to judge or to love our neighbor. As the good Samaritan, don't pass by those that are in the ditch and that are in need. That's exactly who we go to. And when we meet their immediate need, their medical need, their water needs, their emergency shelter needs, we're going to earn the right to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Why are you here? Well, I'd love to tell you why we're here. And that Jesus loves them died for them. God sent his only son, that they have eternal life, that they just repent. And that's true in this country, that's true in Afghanistan, true around the world. And that's why I came to Samaritan's Purse to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

SCHLAPP: Well, amen. And it's so true, we need God more than ever before. We need prayer more than ever before, not only across the globe but especially here in America.
