Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly amplified far-right figure and “proud Islamophobe” Laura Loomer and her content on his Truth Social account. A Media Matters review of his account found that he has reposted Loomer’s content — including her Truth Social posts, other social media posts, articles, and videos — at least 23 times since December 2023.
Trump’s ties to Loomer — who has been a staple of Trump’s orbit for years and apparently has the respect and ear of the former president — drew media scrutiny after he was seen traveling with her ahead of the September 10 ABC News presidential debate, as well as the next day at a 9/11 memorial ceremony. Some Republicans have expressed concern about Loomer’s presence in Trump’s orbit.
Loomer has a long history of using extremist rhetoric. In 2017, she described herself as “pro-white nationalism” and a “proud islamophobe” and celebrated the death of over 2,000 migrants. More recently, she argued that “discrimination keeps you safe.” Last year, she shared a video claiming, “9/11 was an inside job!” She has since doubled down on that, writing, “Whatever you do…. Do NOT google Building 7.” She also recently claimed that “the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center” if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the presidency. She has previously described herself as being “friends with” white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, and has toasted to “the hostile takeover of the Republican Party” with him.
Trump has repeatedly associated and met with Loomer, publicly praising her, inviting her to high-profile events at his properties, repeatedly appearing in photos with her, and even reportedly trying to get her hired for his 2024 presidential campaign. Loomer has claimed that “every time President Trump sees me, he always says, ‘You’re so smart. I love your site so much. You’re so intelligent. I love your articles. ... I read your website every day.’”
On September 13, Trump defended his association with Loomer, saying, “She’s been a supporter of mine. She speaks very positively of the campaign. … I don’t control Laura. Laura has to say what she wants. She’s a free spirit.“
Trump’s association with Loomer further extends to his social media activity, where Trump has repeatedly amplified her — including racist content, content attacking officials in Trump’s legal cases, and content promoting her support for him.
Content that Trump has amplified from Loomer on Truth Social includes:
- A post from Loomer that used a photo of Harris’ birth certificate to falsely claim that Harris is “LYING about being black.”
- A post from Loomer calling ABC News’ Rachel Scott — who interviewed Trump at a Black journalists event — “a rabid, anti-Trump liar and anti-white racist,” and Harris a “DEI hire.”
- Multiple posts from Loomer attacking the family of Judge Arthur Engoron, who presided over Trump’s civil fraud trial in New York. These posts included claims that Engoron’s wife attacked Trump on social media, which a court spokesperson said were false, and a post misidentifying a reporter as Engoron’s son.
- An image from Loomer’s online show depicting Super Tuesday Republican presidential primary results, with images of Trump superimposed over the states he won and an image of a duck — apparently meant to resemble his then-primary opponent Nikki Haley — on Vermont, the one state Haley won that day.
- A post from Loomer showing that she voted for Trump in the Florida Republican presidential primary.
- Links to articles from Loomer’s website that attack the “anti-Trump bias” of Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over Trump’s New York trial that resulted in Trump’s conviction on 34 counts.
- A post from Loomer calling Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis — who is prosecuting Trump for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia — a “DEI District Attorney.” The post features a video of Loomer confronting Willis.
- Posts from, and a link to an article from, Loomer claiming that Harris’ social media presence and following were faked.
Additionally, Trump in December also shared a video of Loomer saying she put Trump before her personal life, with the former president writing, “Thank you, Laura!” And in April, Trump shared a video of Loomer at a rally criticizing one of Trump’s trials and the “fake news media freaks.”
Trump’s repeated promotion of Loomer and her content on his Truth Social account is in addition to his repeated amplification of accounts promoting the QAnon conspiracy theory, as well as accounts promoting extreme and other violent rhetoric.
