In social media posts, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called her Democratic colleagues “the enemies to the American people” and vowed they “will be held accountable”

Just days after pro-Trump insurrectionists inspired by the departing president stormed the Capitol, resulting in several deaths, extremist Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia used her official Twitter and Facebook accounts to share overheated commentary about her Democratic colleagues as tensions remain high.

There have been new disturbing revelations linked to the horrific assault on the Capitol -- which has so far led to the deaths of five people. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said she felt she “was going to die” that day. Staff for Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) said that the panic button system installed in Pressley’s office had mysteriously been removed prior to the attack. And the night after the attack, the FBI arrested a man who allegedly traveled to Washington, D.C., with multiple weapons and ammunition and had texted about his intent to murder Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

In spite of these reported threats, Greene responded to the House’s scheduled vote to impeach Trump for an unprecedented second time for his role in inciting the insurrection by writing a searing message targeting Democrats from her congressional, verified social media accounts:

These Democrats are the enemies to the American people who are leading the impeachment witch hunt against President Trump. AGAIN! They will be held accountable. #ImpeachmentDay
These Democrats are the enemies to the American people who are leading the impeachment witch hunt against President Trump. AGAIN! They will be held accountable. #ImpeachmentDay

Greene posted this potentially threatening message to both her official Twitter and Facebook accounts. Twitter and Facebook have lately started -- far too late -- to crack down on posts and accounts which may stoke further violence, and Greene’s posts should not escape their scrutiny.

Greene earlier used her personal Twitter and Facebook accounts to promote Republicans’ failed attempt to challenge the Electoral College vote count on January 6, which Trump supporters interrupted with their violence, as “our 1776 moment.” According to a Media Matters review, she also used official and personal Facebook pages to promote slogans related to “stop the steal,” “fight for Trump,” “save America,” “fight for America,” and variations of these phrases at least 69 times since Election Day.

Media Matters has previously explained just how dangerously extreme Greene is. She is a QAnon and 9/11 conspiracy theorist who has promoted anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic remarks, among other vitriolic rhetoric, which included dismissing violence against Democrats. Facebook previously removed a photo Greene posted to her personal page which encouraged violence against Democratic lawmakers. Facebook and Twitter should not make an exception for her alarming comments against members of Congress now that she is among them.
