“Gunny” Bob repeated canard that Hillary Clinton banned military uniforms in White House, also claimed she “delegated” someone “to whack Vince Foster”

On Newsradio 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show, host “Gunny” Bob Newman claimed falsely that, as first lady, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) “passed a White House rule ... that forbade the wearing of military uniforms unless it was absolutely necessary for an official function.” Newman also repeated the long-discredited smear that Clinton “delegated” someone “to whack Vince Foster,” the White House aide who committed suicide in July 1993.

During the August 25 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show, host “Gunny” Bob Newman claimed falsely that, as first lady, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) “passed a White House rule...that forbade the wearing of military uniforms unless it was absolutely necessary for an official function.” Newman used this myth as evidence that Clinton “loathes the U.S. military” and added that Clinton is “the scum of the earth.” Newman also repeated the long-discredited smear that Clinton “delegated” someone “to whack Vince Foster,” the deputy White House counsel who committed suicide in Northern Virginia's Fort Marcy Park on July 20, 1993. In addition, Newman said that Clinton “scares Lenin, she's so far to the left.”

The allegation that Clinton imposed a ban on the wearing of military uniforms in the White House was reported as early as April 1, 1993, in a Washington Post article [by subscription or purchase only] that referred to "[a] whole series of apocryphal anecdotes [that] have made the rounds and fed military disaffection." With regard to “the one about Hillary Rodham Clinton's ban on uniforms in the White House,” the Post reported that it "[a]lso didn't happen." Similarly, Newsweek reported in December 2005 that "[t]here are still soldiers who swear by the myth that she banned uniforms at the White House." In its March 15, 1993, edition, U.S. News & World Report reported," Among other poisonous rumors is the tale that the Clintonites are preparing to order military personnel to wear civilian clothes, not their uniforms, whenever they enter the White House." U.S. News noted that the White House denied the story.

From the August 25 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show:

NEWMAN: You gotta look at what Hillary Clinton is doing. Notice that she's pretending to be a conservative now, because she knows that -- she's a radical left winger. She's so far to the left --

CALLER: She's not even in the ballpark.

NEWMAN: She scares Lenin, she's so far to the left. But she knows that she can't get elected president that way. So over the last year and a half she's been moving herself to the center-right. And -- which is brilliant politics -- whether it will be enough to deceive and trick enough Americans into voting for her, we don't know.

[...]

CALLER: OK. Now. Here's the other question. Now, if Hillary does win, how do you see this country being ran, like, what do you see changing? Will they --?

NEWMAN: Do the words Karl Marx mean anything to you? She is a hard-core leftist. She has definite socialist leanings. She loves the idea of socialized medicine and using shared wealth. She is way to the left. But she can't get elected being way to the left. That's why she's been modifying her image to the American people to try to pretend that she's a middle conservative. And she is anything but. This woman hates the U.S. military so much that when she was in the White House with her husband, she passed a White House rule -- ordered a White House rule into effect -- that forbade the wearing of military uniforms unless it was absolutely necessary for an official function. That's how much she loathes the U.S. military. And the military loathes her back. She is the scum of the earth.

[...]

CALLER: OK, I'd like to talk about Hillary Clinton here.

NEWMAN: OK.

CALLER: I think the worst thing that could happen to America would be for Hillary Clinton to become elected president.

NEWMAN: I can agree with you.

CALLER: And the reason -- my reason -- is because of all of her past scandals. It seems like she has been given absolution from the Pope for Whitewater, Ron Brown, Vincent Foster and everything else.

NEWMAN: She and her husband -- they know how to dodge a bullet. You know, we called Ron Reagan, you know, “Teflon Ron” -- stuff would not stick to Ron. But he was a great president -- not perfect, but certainly great. But Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton -- man, it is astounding to see all the dirt that surrounds them, yet it does not stick to their clothing. And if she gets to be president, I wonder if the scandals that she'll no doubt be involved with will bring down her presidency. If she continues the way she's been going, [caller], it wouldn't bring her down -- unless somebody can prove that she whacked Vince Foster, but I think she delegated that.

CALLER: Well, I think that somebody eventually will, because I believe that she did.

NEWMAN: Well, I don't know if they'll ever get to prove it.
