KAYLEE MCGHEE WHITE (CONTRIBUTOR): Everyone seems caught on this point over whether Sen. Padilla correctly identified himself, but really that's a moot point. It doesn't matter whether he did or not. No one, even if you are a U.S. sitting senator, has the right to barge into an official government press conference, interrupt a cabinet secretary when she is trying to deliver her prepared remarks, storm toward the podium while she is speaking, and then fight and resist law enforcement when they try to stop you. It's completely outrageous behavior, and to be honest being cuffed is the least of Padilla's problems here. He really should be censured by his colleagues and even federally charged under Section 111 of U.S. Code 18 which criminalizes anyone who forcibly resists or obstructs certain federal officers. Plenty of January 6 protesters were hit with those exact same charges.
Unfortunately, however, I'm not even sure that federal charges would be enough to bring Padilla and his Democratic colleagues back down to Earth. They seem bent on deliberately stoking unrest and incivility in this nation, because that's all they have left. They have no agenda, no message, no way to win back the American people. And they're hoping that the American voters will forget about that as long as Democrats are able to keep them angry enough.
