Fox hosts scold Newark mayor after he spoke out about US military veteran swept up in ICE raid

In response to the mayor’s statement about the raid, host Lawrence Jones replied, “Who cares?”

In a segment about the number of undocumented immigrants so far arrested by the Trump administration, Fox & Friends hosts scolded Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka for speaking out about an ICE raid in his town. What the hosts failed to mention is that according to Baraka’s statement, a U.S. military veteran had also been detained in the raid.

After host Lawrence Jones stated, “When you see some of these guys that they are arresting, we’re talking about rapists, murderers, people that are wanted for assault as well. So, these are violent offenders,” co-host Brian Kilmeade responded, “In Newark, New Jersey, the mayor is complaining that they weren’t told that they were going to have an ICE presence in the area.”

“Who cares,” Jones replied.

However, the reportedly warrantless sweep may not have caught only “rapists” and “murderers,” as Jones suggested. Baraka’s statement noted that the raid had also resulted in the detention of a U.S. citizen and military veteran who “suffered the indignity of having the legitimacy of his military documentation questioned.”

If Fox hosts are going to callously mock those calling out ICE raids for impacting U.S. citizens and military veterans as well, at the very least they should include all of the facts.
