Fox News claimed Trump made his position on abortion “crystal clear” in debate despite his nonanswers

During yesterday’s presidential debate in Philadelphia, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump refused to clearly answer ABC News moderator Linsey Davis’ question on if he would “veto a national abortion ban.” Trump said that he “won't have to” and that “it doesn't matter because this issue has now been taken over by the states.” Trump also claimed that he had never discussed vetoing an abortion ban if it came to his desk with his running mate JD Vance, even though Vance told Meet the Press in August that Trump would veto one.

Fox News responded to the nonanswer by praising Trump for clarifying his position on abortion.

Trump also failed to give a straight answer on why he backtracked his support for Florida’s Amendment 4, which would allow for abortion up until the point of fetal viability (24 weeks), saying, “The reason I’m doing that vote is because the plan is, as you know the vote is, they have abortion in the ninth month.”

Fox News contributor Lawrence Jones claimed this morning that Trump had “made it very clear what his position is on abortion and put a red line even with some Republicans saying, look, ‘I never said anything about a national ban.’”

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also commended Trump for “being crystal clear on his position on abortion,” adding that Trump “got a chance to make his position known on one of the issues where Democrats were trying to hang Republicans out to dry.”
