ABC’s This Week Downplays Stephen Bannon's Key Role In “Alt-Right” Media

Chyron: “Critics Slam Bannon For Alleged Ties To ‘Alt-Right’”

On ABC's This Week, a chyron described future White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon's ties to the white nationalist “alt-right” movement as “alleged.” Bannon is the former chairman of Breitbart News, a website Bannon himself once called “the platform for the alt-right.”

Under Bannon, Breitbart News had a rabidly anti-immigrant tone, pushed a white nationalist viewpoint in articles on race and religion, and has been steeped in anti-Semitism and general bigotry. Breitbart News also relentlessly defended Trump during his presidential campaign, essentially becoming the propaganda arm of the president-elect’s presidential bid. By failing to accurately explain Bannon’s relationship to the “alt-right,” This Week helped rehabilitate his reputation and normalize Bannon’s role in the Trump administration.
