32,000 Ask CNN To Stop Hosting Anti-Gay Hate Group Leader

More than 32,000 people have signed a petition asking CNN to stop hosting anti-gay hate group leader Tony Perkins to speak on behalf of America's Christians following Perkins' appearance on the network to discuss the Supreme Court's recent marriage equality decisions.

Just minutes after the Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) on June 26, CNN invited Perkins - president of the anti-gay hate group Family Research Council (FRC) - to peddle lies about the decision's impact on religious liberty. No other Christians were interviewed during the segment, despite the fact that a majority of Christians oppose DOMA:

Following Perkins' appearance, Faithful America - a group working toward “reclaiming Christianity from the religious right” - launched a petition asking CNN to stop relying on the hate group leader to “speak on behalf of America's Christians.” The petition has already garnered more than 32,000 signatures:

CNN frequently relies on Perkins and members of his organizations to act as spokespersons for American Christians, especially when covering LGBT issues.

Perkins was recently invited by the network to downplay major victories for marriage equality and peddle the myth that allowing openly gay members into the Boy Scouts would result in sexual abuse. During the 2012Republican presidential primary, Perkins frequently appeared on CNN to speak on behalf of religious voters:

Peter Sprigg, FRC's senior fellow for policy studies, has also made numerous appearances on CNN attacking marriage equality.
