Fox anchor claims immigrant parents separated from kids at the border were “abusing” their children

Julie Banderas: “You have parents that are abusing children by using them as their -- you know, devices in order to get across the border illegally, and then just dumping them out in the middle of fields”

JULIE BANDERAS (GUEST CO-ANCHOR): There is a Fox News poll out though that I find interesting. It asks how people feel about the Trump administration's enforcement of immigration laws. And it shows that in fact half of voters say that Trump's immigration policies in fact go too far. Twenty-four percent believe not far enough, and 21% say about right. What would you make of that? Americans would like to see in terms of immigration, when there are 50% have said they have gone too far. However, the administration has gone to a point where Mexico is finally coming in and stepping up and taking responsibility. Had Trump not thrown out those tariffs, this would not be happening. And the United States is the one that's been bearing all of this burden for so many years.

TOM HOMAN (FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR): Well it's because that 50% is misinformed. Look, the false narrative being pushed by the Democrats and most of the media is that the Trump policies are inhumane and so forth. But if you actually look, let's look at a couple of data points. In FY12 under the Obama administration, ICE removed and arrested 409,000. Last year, ICE removed 256,000. So, far more removed back in FY12. And if you look at, I think when they talk about too much enforcement, they're talking about the zero-tolerance and family separation. But people need to understand, again, a false narrative by the Democrats where -- I was there in FY15 when those facilities were built. The so-called cages, of course I don't call them cages, they're large facilities to keep children away from adults. They were built in FY15. You know, the separation of family members that weren't relatives was happened in FY15. So again, it's a false narrative. If they really were educated in exactly what this president is doing, look, the data -- 89% -- 9 out of 10 of everybody ICE arrested this past year were either a convicted criminal or pending criminal charges. The Trump administration is doing a great job. Problem is, we need to get out there and educate the American people on the facts, versus the false narrative being pushed by the Democrats and the liberal media.

BANDERAS: Yeah, no, certainly the separation of families was tragic. And it was something that, you know, maybe was avoidable, but it's hard to say when you have parents that are abusing children by using them as their -- you know, devices in order to get across the border illegally, and then just dumping them out in the middle of fields.
