The Federalist's Mollie Hemingway on removing Confederate statues: “It starts with statues, it moves to books, it ends with people”

From the August 16 edition of Fox News' Special Report with Bret Baier:

MOLLIE HEMINGWAY: Well, it's important that the American people get to make the decision about where statues are and if they remain up or if new ones go up or if other ones come down and it shouldn't be done by executive order. It shouldn't be done in the dead of night. It shouldn't be done by totalitarian mobs or violent mobs taking it down.

And it's important because how you handle your public statues says a lot about who you are as a people. When you have it happening by mob rule, it starts with statues, it moves to books, it ends with people and the greatest most lasting-- I mean just today I saw that some people were trying to remove George Washington's name from a park in Illinois. This is not just about Confederacy. It's already expanding from beyond that. So, these are conversations we need to endeavor to have very calmly.
