LAURA INGRAHAM (HOST): What was your reaction to Trump's comments?  And then we'll get into your plan for stopping this madness of radicalization in the United States.  What was your reaction to him?

RICK SANTORUM: My reaction was that he was focused on reality, which is that this government does not have a system to adequately vet people who are coming into this country. We've said that for the last several weeks, when it comes to Iraq and Syrian refugees. That we don't have a system, a reliable system, and as we've seen from these terror attacks, both in Boston and San Bernardino, the current system of vetting people coming into this country, is flawed. And so we can say, well that's just too bad and we're gonna allow, you know, anybody who wants to come in from anywhere to go through this sieve or we can actually try to propose a policy. I don't agree with his policy, I think that it's way too broad, but I do agree that we need to do something about it, and I suggested several things. Number one, as you know Laura, for a long time I've been suggesting that we need to end the visa lottery. The visa lottery is a system that you win a lottery from a third world country. Many of those third world countries have a lot of jihadists, a lot of folks who are potentially dangerous to this country, and there's really no reason for this program to continue.  We should end that program. We should end chain migration, which brings relatives of those folks into this country, neither of which are --

INGRAHAM: Is that enough though? I mean, you say it's too broad. You know, I would say its not broad enough. I mean, why is it too broad? To me it's less problematic if you say a pause on all immigration until we kick people out of the country who are on visa overstays, especially those from -- well all of them on visa overstays. Go ahead.

INGRAHAM: But how do we know?  I mean, I see what you're saying. I mean, look I've said repeatedly, one of my close friends is my doctor, is Muslim. She's amazing, like amazing, I mean one of -- like a family to me.  So I hear you on that, but given the volatility of the radicalization that's going on, that crosses country borders through the internet, it's almost different today then it was, I'd say five, ten years ago, where wasn't this internet radicalization that's so easy. That's the problem. So that's why I would say, I don't even care about the Muslim test. I would say until we enforce the laws that are on the books, and then a lot of the things you propose, you know I'm completely in favor of them. Let's put all those things in place, and then we can have confidence that the people coming in are great people who want to add something to the country. They're going to be patriotic, and lovely people. They might be Muslim, they might be Christian, they might be -- I don't know what they are. But they're going to believe in American values.
