JOHN ROBERTS (FOX NEWS WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT): President Trump says he doesn't really know [Gordon] Sondland, and in a way that's true. Sondland is a Portland, Oregon, businessman -- the owner of the Provenance hotel chain. He has been a Republican bundler for a couple of decades. He raised money for Bush 43, John McCain, Mitt Romney, he originally was backing Jeb Bush in the 2016 campaign, but after Bush bowed out, then he switched to President Trump. But he had distanced himself from President Trump at one point after President Trump attacked the Khan family after the Democratic National Convention. But after President Trump won the election, Sondland threw a million dollars into the inaugural committee, according to various reports, looking to get some sort of plum assignment, maybe an ambassadorship.
