With no lifeline to pay its employees, Americano Media is off the air as it begins an apparent shutdown of its operations

Update (8/31/23): On Wednesday, apparently former Americano Media senior editor Emmanuel Rincon confirmed that employees had been furloughed and that network officials “have not shown their faces” after shutting down company emails and chat rooms. He also noted that CEO Ivan Garcia-Hidalgo has not responded to any phone calls or emails from employees who are “days away from having nowhere to sleep.”

Americano Media, the struggling conservative Spanish-language media network, is reportedly facing a “near-total shutdown” as executives have failed to find a buyer for their toxic operation. Now, a key host has confirmed that his show will not be live this week.

Ivan-Garcia Hidalgo, Americano Media’s CEO, reportedly rejected Voz Media’s “symbolic” offer to assume the company’s heavy debt burden, which reportedly includes months worth of wages to over 100 employees, including some who are unable to make mortgage payments and are living without health insurance.

Two weeks ago, Emmanuel Rincon, the outlet’s former senior digital editor, confirmed he was “furloughed” after Americano Media failed to pay his salary for over two months. Now, as it faces legal action to recover a $5.7 million loan plus interest, Americano Media’s Jesus Marquez, one of the network’s remaining radio personalities, announced on August 25 the network will be off the air this week due to “administrative reasons.”

JESUS MARQUEZ (HOST): I have an announcement, folks. I was just informed an hour before going on air by the Americano Media administration that we will not be live next week. Next week, we will be airing recordings and reruns. So I wanted to notify you, if I am not live next week, that is why. I owe you, my audience. For me, you are the most important part of the show. So I want you to know that next week I will not be on live, me personally, for administrative reasons.
