Politifact Corrects Palin's Oil Contribution Claims

After former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Sunday wrongly accused President Barack Obama of slowing the response to BP's gulf oil leak because he received BP money, The St. Petersburg Times' Politifact set the record straight.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-check news site not only clarified that Obama received no BP money, only $71,051 from BP employees. But it also noted Palin has taken such money herself.

“And to be fair, we also took a look at Palin's contributions from 2006 when she ran, successfully, for governor of Alaska,” Politifact stated. “According to data from National Institute on Money in State Politics, Palin received $4,500 from BP employees that year; and about $15,500 from the gas and oil industry as a whole.”
