Rush Can't Get Enough of Talking About Other People's Marriages

By Todd Gregory

Rush just couldn't stop discussing Al and Tipper Gore's reported separation today. Oh, there was talk about why the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is bad for President Obama, to be sure, but it was clear that Rush was happiest when talking about the state of the Gores' marriage. Rush relayed the news that “everybody” is surprised that the Clintons' marriage outlasted the Gores'. He also took callers who contributed their speculation on the subject. One suggested that Rush is the real reason for the Gores' split, because Rush destroyed the climate change “hoax.” Another predicted that it will eventually be revealed that Al Gore cheated on Tipper, a proposition Rush found “hard to envision,” because an affair requires “a willing participant.” On the other hand, Rush reasoned, “there's no accounting for who loves who,” because “there are people who love Charles Manson.” It was a pretty sleazy broadcast.

A good portion of the second hour was devoted to Rush's interview of Andy McCarthy, who has a new book out called The Grand Jihad: How Islam and the Left Sabotage America. The book's title gives you a good idea of what the discussion was like. McCarthy worries that Muslims are trying to take over America. Rush shared these concerns.

Limbaugh put in his time attacking Obama over the oil leak, of course. He joined other right-wing media figures in suggesting that the White House is investigating the spill to destroy BP, and he called the spill “a microcosm of exactly what's going on throughout the entire country.” Rush also described Obama's speech on the economy as “a fate worse than waterboarding.” Rush did some ruminating on the allegations regarding Rep. Joe Sestak, flatly declaring the situation “a bribe.” He also said that Obama's Memorial Day trip to Chicago was intended to send a message to Rod Blagojevich, likening it to “the horse's head in the bed in The Godfather.” Rush eventually closed the loop by wondering why there's going to be a criminal investigation of BP over the oil spill, but no investigation of the allegations about Sestak, which have been dismissed as "crap" even by Republicans.

Finally, Rush mentioned that he had read Zev Chafets' entire biography of him in one sitting. “It's weird reading about yourself and liking it. There's no malice in this thing,” Limbaugh said.

FYI, Dittoheads: Rush announced that he'll be off through June 15 and that guest hosts will be handling his duties in the meantime.
