Guest host Mark Belling brought good tidings to Dittoheads on today's show: El Rushbo will be back behind the Golden Microphone sometime next week! And thank God for that. To give you an idea of the kind of spine-tingling excitement that Belling was transmitting, let's just say that he filled up a good portion of the first hour by reading at length from a National Review piece by a Heritage Foundation VP that warned of impending fiscal disaster. Belling went on and on about this, in the process managing to ridiculously claim that the government “hasn't saved a penny” for baby boomers' retirement. He also made the rather questionable prediction that advocating for Social Security cuts will be seen as a “badge of honor” for politicians, rather than an electoral liability.

Belling moved on to complaining about the media's alleged focus on comments Carly Fiorina made about Sen. Barbara Boxer's hair. As an alternative topic, he suggested the story of Alvin Greene, the little-known candidate who won the Democratic primary in the South Carolina Senate race. He did manage to bring it back around to the California Senate race, though, pondering a sexist game of “who's hotter” between two of the most powerful female politicians in the country, Boxer and Nancy Pelosi. Belling then spent some time railing against Obama's policy on Iran. Belling said Obama is regarded as a “wimp” and recalled the good old days under George W. Bush, who was “respected” by world leaders. Belling went on to say that Obama is “OK with the Iranian government” and has “the same degree of tyrant in him.”

Belling briefly discussed the oil spill (Obama is mishandling it) and cap-and-trade (it's bad!) before engaging in a lengthy dissection of the story of Abby Sunderland, a 16-year-old girl who was rescued while attempting to sail around the world. Belling took a call from a person who claimed to know Abby's family and defended their decision to allow her to attempt the trip. Belling wrapped up with a topic he had been teasing throughout the show: the World Cup. He joined other conservative media types in complaining about the event -- to a degree. He said he thinks it's a good event because it's only held every four years, which makes it special, and he likes that people in America use it as a chance to show their nationalism. However, Belling said, the sports media are shoving it down our throats, and more people will end up watching the NBA Finals anyway.

Perhaps not, Mark.
