Limbaugh Leaps To His Own Defense For His Repeated Use Of “The R-Word”

By Zachary Pleat

Rush refers to President Obama as “an idiot”

Rush began the show by mentioning that the Dow Jones industrial average might go below 10,000 points today and calling the administration's comments on Toyota's problems “thug politics.” Deciding that the “markets are voting” because of the Dow, Rush then said, “Obama says he's not a Bolshevik and he says he's not an ideologue. That leaves one other possibility, he's an idiot. A full-fledged idiot if he's not an ideologue and he's not a Bolshevik.” This became a theme throughout the show.

After some more ranting about the economy, Rush segued into complaining that the media is trying to get Sarah Palin to denounce him for his repeated use of the word “retards” yesterday, given her previous criticism of Rahm Emanuel. Rush began to say “the R-word” instead and promised to not use the original word again. He then complained that “the R-word” appeared in health care legislation seven times and wondered if “the R-word” was to be “the new N-word” -- if it would be stricken from Obama's autobiography, Dreams From My Father. Rush would continue to defend himself and criticize various media outlets and personalities for attacking him over his comments.

Moving on, Rush mentioned Scott Brown's election certification and his pending swearing-in, reading a Boston Herald article and stating his belief that Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin didn't want to certify the election results, but did so anyway. Rush later complained about Patrick Kennedy calling Brown's election “overblown.”

After the break, Rush continued coming to his own defense over his comments, this time taking issue with Arianna Huffington. He then complained about the media taking issue with his comment that “I love the women's movement. Especially walking behind it” -- his defense being that he's been saying it for “22 years.” Rush then went back to bashing various media outlets and figures for taking issue with his comments from yesterday.

Before leaving for another “obscene profit break,” Rush took issue with Rep. Barney Frank calling him out for repeating John Fund's claim that Frank was pushing a universal voter registration law with Sen. Chuck Schumer. Even though Fund retracted his claim, Rush suggested that Frank was the one who was wrong, saying:

LIMBAUGH: Now, let's remember the last time Barney said with ontological certitude that there's no way Scott Brown's swearing in will be delayed, there's no way the [inaudible], there's no provision in the law for it. There's no way. That's silly. He can't be delayed. If he wins, he wins, and he's sworn in. He's been delayed being sworn in.

So when Barney is speaking with this kind of certitude, folks, the evidence is maybe he doesn't know what he's talking about here and he's trying to defuse things.

As well, Scott Brown's seating wasn't delayed: as Media Matters Senior Fellow Eric Boehlert pointed out this morning, Brown is being seated early.

Rush imagines Democrats responding to “this punk kid” Obama

For the beginning of the second hour, Rush cycled through a series of articles on unemployment and the economy. Rush then commented on the problems Toyota is facing, naturally turning it into an attack on Obama:

LIMBAUGH: Well folks, this editorial is exactly right. I mean, you have GM and Chrysler essentially owned by Obama. Owned by the federal government. So here's one of the branch managers, Ray LaHood, running around ripping Toyota to shreds. And now Toyota says, “Well, I got to recall some vehicles.” And Honda said, “We got to recall some vehicles.”

What is more flawed? Let me ask you people a question. What do you think is more flawed, a Toyota or Obama's health care plan? A Toyota or Obama's budget? If anything needs to be recalled out there, it's Obama, and his entire agenda. If design flaws are the issue, let's have public hearings on every item in Obama's budget and in Obamacare. Let's examine cap and tax, the underlying design flaw known as man-made global warming. So what do we have here? We have Obamacare, Obama's budget, cap and tax. All vehicles for statism, fascism, socialism. Each has thousands of defective parts. It does not work. I'd rather get in a Toyota any day, even one with a gas pedal that sticks, than have the Obama agenda imposed upon this country.

So what, what's more flawed? A government beholden to unions or one that isn't? A car company beholden to unions or one that isn't? A car company owned by the government and unions or one that isn't? What's more flawed? We can see. But, you know, the Democrats, Obama, particularly, need enemies because enemies distract, enemies divide. Obama is single-handedly is destroying private-sector companies. And remember it was Bill Clinton who said that Obama has the instincts of a Chicago thug. Bill Clinton was the first person to get that out there.

After this, Rush commented on the televised Q&A session between Obama and congressional Democrats yesterday and imagined Democrats wondering what “this punk kid” had to offer “these old political veterans”:

LIMBAUGH: Now imagine. Imagine that you are a Democrat in the Senate. Any of them. And here comes this punk kid who is the least experienced person in any room he walks into. Lecturing these old political veterans. These are the guys that used to skunk Republicans every day of the week. These are the guys that destroyed judicial nominees. These are the guys that successfully lied about Republicans cutting Social Security. These are the guys that successfully masterminded a program that Republicans wanted your kids to starve because they were going to cut the school lunch program. And this guy, who got 150 days in the Senate, a six-minute career, walks in there and tells these guys how to do their jobs.

Coming back from the half-hour break, Rush read a Reuters article discussing a decision by the European Parliament not to share certain bank data with the U.S. Rush laughingly dismissed the reported concern that “Washington regards the information as vital in combating terrorism financing.”

Rush then read in full an American Thinker post declaring that Obama is not a team player. After this, Rush puzzled over Obama's comments at the National Prayer Breakfast, especially the comment that nobody should question his faith. Rush proceeded to ignore of his own role in attacking the president's faith, wondering who had ever questioned Obama's faith and asking if he “missed this.”

Rush continues to falsely claim global warming is a “hoax”

After spending some time ranting about global warming, Rush read an entire Big Hollywood post by Greg Gutfeld, host of Fox News' Red Eye, about the retraction of a study purportedly showing a link between a measles vaccination and autism. Rush then went on to attack just about any celebrity involved in what he considered to be hysterical and false causes for a while.

Later, Rush read an American Thinker post to complain about a recent poll of self-identified Republicans -- commissioned by Daily Kos -- saying that it was just commissioned to make Republicans look stupid.

A little while later, Rush read a post from Public Policy Polling on how Americans felt about their economic condition in the past year and happily hyped up the results showing that among those who felt their condition had worsened, the GOP led 57-27 on a generic congressional ballot. Of course, Rush downplayed the result of more people blaming George W. Bush for the economy than Obama.

Now when he leaves, and I'm told -- I'm told that when he left this meeting that, that -- in fact this meeting was scripted. That question we played last hour of Blanche Lincoln, that was a scripted question and I'm told that when Obama left these guys unloaded in the room. It was all hunky-dory and fine and dandy when he was in there. But I think they were probably laughing this guy out of the -- he comes in here, tells us what to do, don't fret about our jobs while hanging a noose around our neck with his agenda.

Trust me on this my friends, it's not -- not only is there no paradise over there. It ain't, it ain't, I mean it's all -- It is falling apart, inside the Democrat Party.
