Jon Meacham, editor of Newsweek, just happened to be scheduled to appear on The Daily Show Wednesday, the same day word came out that the news weekly was being put up for sale.

Speaking of the magazine's future, Meacham hinted on the show that the public needs to pay for news, on all levels: “We have to decide, are we ready to get what we pay for? And if you are not going to pay for news, you are going to get a different kind of news.”

Daily Show host Jon Stewart admitted: “I haven't looked at Newsweek in a while.”
