ROB FINNERTY (HOST): Case closed. Does that remind you of anything right there? Fast forward to tonight — and it brings us no joy to connect these dots. But it doesn't stop there.
Suddenly, just hours after the Sunday night Epstein news dump, the Department of Justice, the same Department of Justice announced they've opened up an investigation into former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan over their involvement in the fake 2016 Russia-Trump collusion hoax. And yes, it is a hoax, and normally we'd be excited about that news. We would welcome this news. These are two people we think should be held accountable.
But the timing, it's almost like the Justice Department doesn't want us talking about Jeffrey Epstein anymore. At least that's what it feels like, doesn't it? Is it common for federal authorities to announce investigations?
A former federal prosecutor tweeting today that, quote, real investigations are not announced. They're executed. No hashtags. No podiums. No breathless cable segments. If you're hearing about one, it's either over or it was never real in the first place. I have led federal investigations that went all the way to convictions without a single leak. The moment an investigation becomes a media campaign, it's over.
And if you are investigating people like James Comey and John Brennan, why wouldn't that investigation include people like Adam Schiff and countless others who for years propagated this lie that Donald Trump colluded with Russia, which is laughable, to win the 2016 election, which of course was always a lie.
