WILLIE GEIST: Well obviously the remarks by Kevin McCarthy and other members set this back, to a guy like Trey Gowdy who's gone out of his way, and bent over backwards to try to prosecute this in a fair way. Even, you know, if you talk behind the scenes with some Clinton people, they say that Trey Gowdy has been among the best at you know, trying to do this the right way. But that looms over the comments that McCarthy made, and others have made loom over because it confirms everyone's on the Democratic side's suspicions about what this is really all about.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: It's going to be fascinating, Mika. And the only thing I would -- I would urge my colleagues in the media to do, is hold your fire and stop assuming. You look at these poll numbers from NBC News, Wall Street Journal, stop assuming that this is just some right-wing witch hunt, and actually wait and see about how the American people feel about it.

SCARBOROUGH: I stand with Trey Gowdy, Republicans shut up. Let the investigation go where the investigation goes.
