Pathological: Tim Graham blames false Obama-Muslim rumors on Obama's golfing

Several news outlets this morning are reporting on new polling data showing that Americans are increasingly confused over a very simple fact -- that President Obama is a Christian, and not a Muslim. If you're a normal person, you recognize that this is the fault of a determined smear campaign by the right, which has tried to stoke xenophobic hysteria over Obama's faith and background since pretty much the moment he became a presidential candidate.

But if you're NewsBuster Tim Graham, you blame the whole thing on Obama golfing too much:

Thursday's Washington Post reports that a new poll by the Pew Research Center found “The number of Americans who believe - wrongly - that President Obama is a Muslim has increased significantly since his inauguration and now account for nearly 20 percent of the nation's population.” Team Obama quickly blamed "'misinformation campaigns' by the president's opponents." The Post's Jon Cohen and Michael D. Shear just pass that along without any specifics.

But what's really shaky is the story's accuser, Obama “faith adviser” Joshua DuBois, trying to tout how the president is deeply, “diligently” Christian, when the president is much more diligent at golfing than he is at church attendance. The number of Sunday church services Obama has attended since the Inauguration doesn't get beyond counting on one hand, even bypassing the pews at Christmas.

This doesn't even approach coherent, but it's nonetheless disgusting that Graham is so ideologically and morally bankrupt that he'll excuse his right-wing cohorts for their deliberate promotion of this falsehood and instead lay blame at the feet of the victim of the smear.
