Newsbusters confuses “touts” and “hypes” with “reads”

One of the many things I don't get about Brent Bozell's deeply misguided crew of media haters at Newsbusters is why they often post clips from TV news shows that feature supposedly liberal and dishonest journalists aggressively holding administration officials accountable; when they're doing what journalists are supposed to do and what conservatives like the ones at Newsbusters insists they never do.

In other words, what I don't understand is why Newsbusters, given its far-right roots, often posts clips proving that the Beltway press corps is not liberally biased.

It's all very confusing and frankly not very well thought out. But nonetheless, here's the latest self-defeating clip highlighted by Newsbusters [emphasis added]

Ex-Clinton Aid George Stephanopoulos Touts Call for Hillary to Resign Over WikiLeaks Scandal

And from the lede:

Former Clinton operative George Stephanopoulos on Wednesday hyped a call for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to resign over the revelations in the WikiLeaks release. While talking to Robert Gibbs, the GMA host quoted Jack Shafer of Slate: “Diplomacy is about face. And the only way for other nations to save face will be to give them Clinton's scalp.”

Two glaring problems. Again, the item as presented completely undercuts everything Newsbusters stands for, which is this mythical claim that the Beltway press is in the pocket of the Obama administration. If that's the case, why is Stephanopoulos supposedly touting and hyping the claim that a key official resign?

Second, the item highlights how Newsbusters doesn't understand how journalism works because Newsbusters rushes forward to claim Stephanopoulos was touting and hyping claim that Hillary Clinton resign in the wake of the WikiLeaks scandal. When in fact, all Stephanopoulos did was read a portion of somebody's column who made that suggestion, and used that column snippet to ask a guest a question.

Stephanopoulos was simply practicing journalism, which apparently completely confused Bozell's Newsbusters crew.
