On his August 29 broadcast, 630 KHOW-AM's Peter Boyles agreed with a caller's suggestion that former President Bill Clinton and then-first lady Hillary Clinton -- now a Democratic U.S. senator (NY) and presidential candidate -- had former deputy White House counsel Vince Foster “whacked.” In fact, official reports termed Foster's death a suicide.
Although several conservative media outlets have suggested that the Clintons were somehow involved in Foster's death -- as Media Matters for America has documented (here, here, here, and here) -- numerous investigations determined that it was a suicide. The Office of the Independent Counsel, then headed by Kenneth Starr, completed its inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Foster's death with a report issued on October 11, 1997. It concluded that “based on investigation and analysis of the evidentiary record ... Mr. Foster committed suicide by gunshot in Fort Marcy Park.”
Referring to the scandal involving U.S. Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) -- who was arrested June 11 during an investigation of “lewd conduct” in a men's public restroom at a Minnesota airport -- Boyles asked, “What's the difference in Bill Clinton standin' there lyin' ... about Monica Lewinsky and this ... idiot lyin' about the airport restaurant [sic]?” Later, the caller told Boyles, “Hey, listen, I'm telling my wife that I'm thinking about votin' for Hillary, and she goes, 'Why?' I said, 'Well, all they did was steal a little money from Whitewater and then they whacked this Foster guy,' ” to which Boyles replied, “Sure.” The caller then said, “So my wife says, 'So you're going to vote for a thievin' murderer?' ” Boyles added, “Damn right.”
From the August 29 broadcast of 630 KHOW-AM's The Peter Boyles Show:
BOYLES: How quickly the GOP forgives Newt Gingrich. How quickly the Democratic Party forgives Bill Clinton. What's the difference in Bill Clinton standin' there lyin' --
CALLER: I know.
BOYLES: -- about Monica Lewinsky and this -- and this idiot lyin' about the airport restaurant.
CALLER: What --
BOYLES: It's the same thing.
CALLER: The difference is public acceptance, though.
BOYLES: Boy, you're right.
CALLER: But, and I guess, I don't know why. You know, I did kind of give Bill a pass. I'm still worried about who shot Steven Foster, but that, that's a bigger concern to me than --
BOYLES: Not Steve Foster.
CALLER: Wasn't it Steven Foster?
BOYLES: No, it was Vince.
CALLER: Excuse me, Vince --
BOYLES: It's all right.
CALLER: -- Foster. Wasn't he the press secretary?
BOYLES: Yeah, no, he, no he was the, the aide. He was with Mrs. Clinton.
CALLER: Yeah, that's right. But he --
BOYLES: It was a suicide, man. Don't worry about it.
CALLER: But was it really?
BOYLES: No. (laughs) I mean, but, I mean --
CALLER: What, did you go nuts or something?
BOYLES: -- no, we're all supposed to sit there and go, “Yeah, Michael Vick didn't bet the dogs, and this guy [Craig] didn't try and do --.” This guy's like Happy Feet, you know, one of those -- got, like, the penguin.
BOYLES: Na-na na-na-na na-na-na.
CALLER: Hey, listen, I'm telling my wife that I'm thinking about votin' for Hillary, and she goes, “Why?” I said, “Well, all they did was steal a little money from Whitewater and then they whacked this Foster guy.”
CALLER: So my wife says, “So you're going to vote for a thievin' murderer?” I said --
BOYLES: Damn right.
CALLER: -- “Well, it's as good as it gets up there now.”
BOYLES: That's right. Well, remember, if you remember when David Duke ran --
BOYLES: -- in Louisiana --
BOYLES: -- and what was the guy, what was it? What the hell was his name? God, he was great. But it said, and the bumper sticker said, “Vote for the crook.”
BOYLES: Guy, Guy somebody.
CALLER: Yeah, Guy somebody.
CALLER: “Vote for the crook, not the Nazi,” or something.
BOYLES: Yeah, it was a between a Nazi and a crook, and the bumper sticker said, “Vote for the crook.”
