ROB SCHMITT: (HOST): Senate Republicans meeting on the Hill today. They're trying to flesh out Trump's big beautiful bill. They've got some work to do in this area.

This morning the Congressional Budget Office, the CBO, gave a new estimate on this bill that it will cut taxes by 3.7 trillion. That sounds fantastic.

It will add 2.4 trillion to the national debt over 10 years. Now that's lower, right? That's down from their estimate from like a week or two ago that it had it at 3.8. And that is thanks in large part to tariff revenue. Remember when they came in and said 3.8, you had a lot of people, in the administration coming out saying they're not estimating tariff revenue. Well they implemented that, cuts it down, makes it a little bit more amenable to the fiscal hawks.

The CBO report also estimates that an increase of 10.9 million people without — will now go without health insurance, 1.4 million of those are illegal immigrants in this country who are on Medicaid and should not be.

And pretty much all the 10.9 million are going to be people that should not be on the Medicaid program. So they're going to cut a lot of the fraud out of Medicaid. That's going to save a tremendous amount of money in this country. People that have been gaming that system or are illegally in the country should not be on Medicaid. That's the point. And it's a point that Joni Ernst, the senator, recently tried explaining to a crowd in her home state of Iowa who were insisting that a lot of people are just going to die if the big, beautiful bill becomes law.
